Ch. 101First Steps into Mt. Silver

Sato traveled with the Dragon Quest Adventure Team into Mt. Silver’s Inner Mountain, where they fought a Beedrill swarm for a honey-harvesting mission. After the battle, Sato caught a Beedrill with unusual talent, prompting Itsuki to suggest that their plan might need to change.

  • Sato joined the team as they rode their Pokemon through Mt. Silver’s Outer Mountain and entered the Inner Mountain.
  • Lance led the team toward a Beedrill nest where the swarm’s honey was ready to harvest.
  • A Victreebel ambushed Itsuki’s Natu, but Lance’s Pidgeotto blasted it aside and the team continued without stopping to fight.
  • Lance announced that the team would take half the Beedrill honey, provoking the swarm to attack.
  • The team’s Pokemon defeated hundreds of Beedrill, and White harvested honey while Sato examined their talents with Dark Power.
  • Sato sensed unusual potential in one Beedrill, caught it, and told Tsubaki he could identify Pokemon talent through an innate ability; Itsuki then said their plan might need to change.

Ch. 102We Don't Lack Money

Sato used his talent-detection ability to help Lance’s team capture rare Pokémon in Mt. Silver, but Lance decided they needed battles and experience more than money. The group set out to challenge the Nido clan, and Itsuki’s scouting revealed the strength of their target.

  • Sato identified two Heracross with Pseudo-Elite Four talent, and the team captured them before moving on to Pinsir and other Pokémon groups.
  • Over three days, the team captured eight Pokémon with Pseudo-Elite Four talent while Nurse Joy Lixiang and White kept everyone supplied and treated.
  • Lance praised the team’s success, then ordered Itsuki to replace money-making missions with training and directed White to prepare for a deeper journey into Mt. Silver’s Inner Mountain.
  • The next morning, Itsuki identified the first target as a Pseudo-Elite Four Beginner Nidoking leading a clan of more than five hundred Pokémon, with eight Elite Peak Nidoqueen beside him.

Ch. 103Nidoking! Charizard!

Sato proposed challenging Nidoking directly, and Lance accepted the one-on-one fight while the others prepared to keep the Nido family from interfering. Charizard fought Nidoking as their bond and power rose toward a breakthrough, ending with Charizard and Nidoking unleashing their ultimate moves against each other.

  • Sato suggested that Nidoking’s pride might make it accept a direct challenge, and Lance agreed to fight it while the others restrained its clan.
  • Lance challenged Nidoking, but Nidoking sent an Elite Peak Nidoqueen to battle Charizard first.
  • Charizard turned aside Nidoqueen’s Superpower with Seismic Toss, impressing Nidoking and the watching Nido family.
  • Nidoking charged Charizard with Superpower and wounded its thigh with its horns before Lance ordered a Heat Wave.
  • Lance and Charizard’s fighting spirit and bond grew as they faced Nidoking, and both Pokémon prepared their ultimate moves: Nidoking’s Head Smash and Charizard’s Blast Burn.

Ch. 104Sleeping and Snoring

Sato and the others fought the enraged Nidoqueen after Charizard and Nidoking were both badly injured, and Lance took over the battle against the wild Pokémon. Sato’s Rest-and-Snore strategy helped Houndoom and Gengar defeat their opponents, leaving the group applauding their performance.

  • Charizard and Nidoking collided with powerful attacks, leaving both Pokémon badly wounded, and Lance recalled them into their Poké Balls.
  • Sato, Itsuki, Tsubaki, and White sent their Pokémon to stop the eight Nidoqueen from reaching their fallen leader.
  • Lance joined the fight with Dragonair and Altaria, while Itsuki quickly defeated three Nidoqueen and Tsubaki defeated another.
  • Sato used Gengar to restrain two Nidoqueen while Houndoom cycled through Rest, Snore, and attacks to wear them down.
  • The remaining Nidoqueen fled after their sisters fell, and Sato praised Houndoom and Gengar as Lance and the others applauded.

Ch. 105Impulse, the Devil

Sato and the others went to Dripping Lake to battle its Golduck, but found far more Pokémon than the mission report had suggested. As the group struggled to hold the line, Sato's Ariados scored the first knockout.

  • Itsuki reported that Dripping Lake had at least ten Elite Peak Golduck, and the group assigned targets before heading there.
  • Sato sent Carvanha to attack a resting Golduck, which sounded the alarm and brought nearly forty Golduck out of the lake.
  • Sato retreated from the overwhelming numbers, then Lance and the others joined the battle and cleared many weaker Golduck with Electric-type attacks.
  • Sato used Ariados, Carvanha, and Zoroark to hold back the Golduck while Lance and Itsuki fought on separate sides.
  • Carvanha bit one of the strongest Golduck, and Ariados followed with X-Scissor to claim the first knockout.

Ch. 106Dead Volcano

After the team left Dripping Lake, Sato and Lixiang searched a dead volcano for Elite Peak Magcargo. They captured one Magcargo, and their search continued toward the afternoon meeting time.

  • Sato's group found no treasure beneath Dripping Lake, while the elderly Golduck watched them depart and Slowbro healed the fallen Golduck.
  • During the lunch break, Sato trained Zoroark and Gengar while the others rested or handled their own tasks.
  • Sato's group split into three pairs to search the dead volcano for ten Elite Peak Magcargo, and Sato and Lixiang took the right-hand route.
  • Sato sent Houndoom ahead to search, and it found an Elite Peak Magcargo and began battling it.
  • Sato directed Houndoom to weaken Magcargo with Dark Pulse and interrupt its Amnesia with Roar, then caught it in a Poké Ball.

Ch. 107So Big!

Sato and Lixiang captured a second Magcargo before rushing to help Lance and Tsubaki, who had encountered a gigantic Magcargo. Sato joined the desperate battle, but the behemoth overwhelmed his Pokémon, leaving him to attempt a weakened Curse.

  • Houndoom defeated and helped Sato capture an Elite Peak Magcargo after resisting its Yawn and fighting through Sleep Talk.
  • Sato and Lixiang continued up the mountain, then turned back as the temperature dropped and Magcargo returned to their caves.
  • An explosion led Sato and Lixiang to Lance and Tsubaki, where a nearly four-meter Magcargo was attacking Lance's Pokémon.
  • Lance told Sato that Ancient Power had injured Tsubaki's shoulder, and Lixiang took Tsubaki away to treat her.
  • Sato sent out Zoroark and Gengar to draw the Giant Magcargo's fire, then ordered Zoroark to use Nasty Plot and Gengar to use Curse despite the foe's overwhelming strength.

Ch. 108Traces of a Legendary Pokémon

Sato and the others battled Giant Magcargo until Zoroark broke through and injured it, triggering a volcanic disturbance that forced everyone to flee. They saw Entei at the crater and made camp to recover, leaving the Legendary Pokémon unexplored.

  • Gengar was knocked out, and Itsuki and White arrived to support Sato, Lance, and the others.
  • Zoroark broke through to Elite Intermediate and used Dark Burst to injure Giant Magcargo, though Magcargo quickly healed.
  • Magcargo's body glowed red as the volcano rumbled and sent smoke billowing from its summit, so Lance led everyone down the mountain by air.
  • Sato and White saw Entei leap into the lava, and its roar calmed the fleeing wild Pokémon.
  • The group made camp to rest, Joy treated Tsubaki's shoulder wound, and Joy and Sato's Houndoom kept watch.

Ch. 109Self-Imposed Affection

After leaving the Dragon Quest Team was rejected, Sato arranged to train independently while still receiving the team’s support. Three days later, he rode Houndoom into Mt. Silver to begin his first mission and encountered a Victreebel he had seen before.

  • Sato reflected on how the team’s strength gap and his reliance on its members had made him feel unable to train freely.
  • After the group submitted their missions and returned to White’s villa, Sato told Lance he wanted to leave the team.
  • Lance explained that team members could work separately, and Sato agreed to take solo missions with supplies and support from the others.
  • Three days later, Sato set out for Mt. Silver on Houndoom to investigate the Weezing of Nightglow Marsh.
  • Victreebel ambushed Sato, and he ordered Houndoom to attack it with Dark Pulse.

Ch. 110Snake Swarm

Sato and his Pokémon reached Nightglow Marsh, where a swarm of Ekans and four Arbok ambushed their camp. They defeated the attackers, and Sato had Pupitar bury the bodies.

  • Sato traveled for two and a half days through Mt. Silver before reaching Nightglow Marsh and setting up camp with his Pokémon.
  • At night, an Arbok used Glare to paralyze Sato and several of his Pokémon, while Ekans attacked from all sides.
  • Zoroark repelled the snakes with Dark Burst, and Sato used Full Heal to help his Pokémon recover.
  • Gengar, Pupitar, Houndoom, and Zoroark fought the four Arbok while Ariados and Carvanha held back the Ekans.
  • After more than half an hour, Sato's Pokémon killed all four Arbok and drove the surviving Ekans into the reeds.
  • Sato collected the Arbok's poison sacs and Poison Fangs, then ordered Pupitar to bury the snakes.

Ch. 111Weezing

Sato searched Nightglow Marsh for a Shiny Weezing, using a hypnotized Koffing and then an ordinary Weezing to look for it. After spotting a glowing Weezing at night, he had Gengar and Carvanha bring it to him and attempted to catch it.

  • Sato entered Nightglow Marsh with Gengar and Carvanha to search for the Shiny Weezing wanted by the Adventurer's Guild mission.
  • Sato avoided a group of Marill led by an Azumarill, then had Gengar hypnotize a Koffing to guide them to a Weezing.
  • After the Koffing led them to an ordinary Weezing, Sato hypnotized it and rode it as they searched the marsh for its unusual companion.
  • Sato ended the day's search and made camp, where he spotted a luminous green Weezing through his thermal Night Vision Goggles.
  • Sato sent Gengar and Carvanha to bring the glowing Weezing over, then pressed a Poké Ball against it while it was restrained by Psychic.

Ch. 112One Glow Hides a Hundred Flaws

Sato questioned the newly captured Nightglow Weezing about its glow, and Weezing led him to a swamp where it believed the source lay. While Gengar explored beneath the water with Weezing, Sato and his Pokémon held off the gathering Wild Pokemon as a larger group rushed them.

  • Sato treated Nightglow Weezing and asked whether it had always glowed, then learned that Weezing seemed to know where the glow came from.
  • Weezing led Sato into Nightglow Marsh, where Sato sent Gengar underwater with it to investigate.
  • As Wild Pokemon gathered around Sato, he released Ariados and waited for Gengar and Weezing to return.
  • Ariados caught a Gligar with String Shot, and Carvanha knocked a Rattata into the swamp, but the Rattata escaped.
  • More than a dozen black shadows surged toward Sato.

Ch. 113Nightlight World

Sato and his Pokemon defeated a flock of twelve Golbat in Nightlight Forest, then used Gengar’s Psychic to enter the hidden space beneath the swamp. He found a glowing, inverted cave and headed down its only passage after spotting a Nightlight Sandshrew.

  • Sato and Ariados weakened the Golbat flock while Carvanha charged through them with Ice Fang and Speed Boost.
  • Ariados trapped and struck Golbat as Sato used Dark Power and his dagger to defeat several attackers himself.
  • Carvanha and Ariados finished off the remaining Golbat, driving the nearby wild Pokemon into hiding.
  • Gengar emerged from the swamp, and Sato coordinated with Gengar and Carvanha to descend inside an air bubble.
  • Sato entered a mirror-symmetrical cave where gravity was reversed and fluorescent green rock walls illuminated the surroundings.
  • Sato spotted a Nightlight Sandshrew retreating into a burrow, then walked into the only winding passage.

Ch. 114Shiny Arbok

Sato found a hidden, green-lit sanctuary and met Bai Ling, a Shiny Arbok who explained how she had come to live there. When Sato said he planned to leave, Bai Ling and the other Pokémon blocked him, declaring that no one could leave without her permission.

  • Sato followed the twisting passage into a vast hollow, where he found a pool and a milky-white Shiny Arbok named Bai Ling.
  • Bai Ling used Telepathy to tell Sato about her former Trainer, her long life, and how she had eventually found the hidden sanctuary.
  • Bai Ling revealed that she had reached Elite Peak and explained that the sanctuary healed injured Pokémon and let them live without food.
  • Sato said he intended to leave, but Bai Ling stiffened, while Gengar and the other Pokémon gathered around him.
  • Bai Ling told Sato that no creature could leave without her permission.

Ch. 115Toxic!

Sato and his Pokémon fought the Shiny Arbok, whose attacks and ability to control the Nocturnal Pokémon made it difficult to approach. After Sato unleashed his Dark Power, Arbok showed fear and backed away, leaving Sato poised to press the advantage.

  • Sato sent Gengar to attack the Shiny Arbok, but Psychic and Shadow Ball slid harmlessly off its body.
  • The Shiny Arbok's glowing eyes drew a vast horde of Nocturnal Pokémon toward Sato, forcing Gengar, Ariados, and Pupitar to fight them off.
  • Sato sent Zoroark to strike Arbok's vulnerable belly, but Arbok dodged and attacked with poisonous fangs that began corroding Protect.
  • Zoroark used Dark Burst to escape Arbok's coil, then dodged its Sludge Bomb as airborne toxins began affecting Sato and his Pokémon.
  • Sato fully activated his Dark Power, and the Shiny Arbok reacted with wariness before instinctively retreating from him.

Ch. 116Begging for Mercy

Sato tested the Shiny Arbok’s weakness and used Gengar and Ariados to keep it occupied while he empowered Zoroark with Dark Power. After Zoroark wounded Arbok, it surrendered and pleaded for Sato to keep its refuge secret, but Sato ordered Zoroark to kill it.

  • Sato had Ariados cover the cave in webs while Gengar tested attacks against the Shiny Arbok and discovered that it evaded Thunderbolt.
  • Gengar and Ariados coordinated to hold off Arbok, though it counterattacked with Mud Bomb and Iron Tail.
  • While Arbok was distracted, Sato transferred Dark Power to Zoroark, boosting its strength to Elite Peak.
  • Zoroark tore open Arbok’s scales, and the wounded Shiny Arbok surrendered and begged Sato not to expose the refuge where bullied Nocturnal Pokemon lived.
  • Sato dismissed Arbok’s pleas as manipulative and ordered Zoroark to kill it with Dark Burst.

Ch. 117Ancient Crown

Sato defeated the Shiny Arbok in the Nightlight World, recovered several valuable items and an Ancient Crown, and returned to Nightglow Marsh. After finally capturing the real Shiny Weezing, he headed to Volcano Lake to search for a Totodile and train Carvanha.

  • Sato’s Zoroark struck Shiny Arbok with Dark Burst, and the Shiny Arbok struggled for more than ten minutes before dying.
  • The Nocturnal Pokemon around the cave entrance turned into Nightlight fireflies, while green lights from Shiny Arbok’s body merged into the cave walls.
  • Sato found a purple-black gelatinous substance inside Shiny Arbok’s head and sealed it away after Ariados and Gengar showed a strong desire to take it.
  • Sato collected Bright Powder, Light Clay, a Shiny Stone, a Moon Stone, and an Awakening Stone from Shiny Arbok’s nest, then had Carvanha and Gengar retrieve an Ancient Crown from the pool.
  • Sato and his Pokemon returned to Nightglow Marsh, and Sato later captured the real Shiny Weezing after searching for two more days.
  • Sato set off for Volcano Lake to pursue the Totodile mission and give Carvanha special training before the Elite Tournament.

Ch. 118Volcano Lake

Sato trained Carvanha at Volcano Lake after finding a campsite away from the crowds. When fewer adventurers remained, Pokémon ambushers approached his camp, and Sato prepared to strike back.

  • Sato sensed that his Dark Power had grown slightly after his battle in Nightglow Marsh and caught a Mankey with Pseudo-Elite Four potential while traveling up Mt. Silver.
  • Sato and Zoroark reached Volcano Lake, avoided the crowded campsite, and eventually found a place to camp.
  • Sato trained Carvanha intensively in the lake, while a hidden figure underwater imitated its training.
  • After the number of adventurers around the lake declined, Sato continued training and spent the evening reading beside the bonfire with Zoroark and Gengar.
  • Gengar detected possible ambushers, and Sato sensed hostile Pokémon closing in from behind and to his right.
  • When the Pokémon came within five meters, Sato called out "Dark Burst!" and Zoroark attacked.

Ch. 119Robbed

Sato foiled an ambush by Katō Kaede and Bandō, then learned they had been robbed and stranded on Mt. Silver. He agreed to help them leave in a few days and gave them spare supplies while continuing his own training.

  • Sato used Dark Burst, Mean Look, and his Pokémon’s attacks to defeat Hitmonlee and Sneasel, then had Gengar capture two men and a Totodile hiding nearby.
  • Sato discovered the men had been trying to steal food because they had not eaten for a long time, and let them share his meal by the bonfire.
  • Katō Kaede and Bandō identified themselves as Johto Alliance Trainers and explained that an adventurer team had robbed them after they accepted a mission near Volcano Lake.
  • Katō Kaede asked Sato to lead them out of Mt. Silver or give them a map, but Sato said he would help them in a few days.
  • Sato gave Katō Kaede and Bandō a spare tent and supplies, then went into his own tent.

Ch. 120Return to Mt. Silver

Sato left Mt. Silver after training Carvanha and helping Katō Kaede and Bandō survive the mountain. Back in Silver Town, he investigated a strange substance from a mutated Arbok, while Katō Kaede’s family began asking about him.

  • Sato trained with his Pokémon and let Katō Kaede and Bandō use supplies to treat their injured Pokémon.
  • Katō Kaede caught the young Totodile, and Sato, Katō Kaede, and Bandō safely returned to Silver Town after two days of travel.
  • Sato turned in the Weezing mission, returned to Dragon Quest's villa, and showed the purple-black gel from a mutated Arbok to White and Nurse Joy Lixiang.
  • White told Sato that Brother Lance and the others had returned to Mt. Silver for training and missions near Volcano Lake and Nightglow Marsh.
  • Katō Kaede thanked his grandfather for helping search for Sato and said he wanted to thank Sato in person.
