But when the last person was called up to stand as punishment, Zalason spoke again, interrupting everyone's thoughts. "Everyone, this is getting a little boring. Surely no one here has an Intelligence score below 20, right? How can none of you think of a way to handle such a small matter?"
No one spoke. The vice chairman shook his head regretfully. "If you keep this up, I'll have to start calling people out by name."
Still, no one answered. He looked at the Storm Maiden. "Solaka, who do you think would be most suitable for this task?"
"Of course Lord Simon. Everyone knows he's the young master of Yarrah." Solaka had finally found a breakthrough, and her resentment toward Zalason instantly vanished. "The first heir of the School of Conjuration is immensely powerful. He could even shield that notorious rapist who appeared in his family last year. I believe he absolutely has both the ability and the means to handle this matter properly and give Yarrah a clear tomorrow."
Upon hearing that, several councilors who were on bad terms with Simon's family could not help laughing, while Simon's expression turned rather ugly.
The matter had indeed brought shame upon his family. His gaze toward Solaka became fierce. "It is true that there were certain educational problems in my household, but we exiled him. This year, he even paid for his sins with his life. Surely that was enough to atone for his crimes. There is no need to keep throwing mud at my family, is there?"
"I merely stated the facts. How is that throwing mud?" Solaka smiled beautifully. "Besides, wasn't I praising your ability to get things done? Please don't misunderstand. I would never want to offend someone as resourceful as Lord Simon."
What a thoroughly shameless bitch.
