Pokémon were generally simple-minded.
Although Butterfree's Wisdom had increased significantly after evolving, it clearly had not left the ranks of simple-minded Pokémon.
The returning Butterfree looked uneasy, wearing an expression as if it wanted to speak but found it difficult to say what was on its mind.
Seeing this, Mark did not press Butterfree about why it had chosen to return. He smiled and said, "Over the past few days, the Caterpie colony has evolved more than twenty Kakuna. Including the ones we already had, there are now just over a hundred Kakuna in total. Since you're back, Caterpie and I have run into some problems arranging the Kakuna. Can you come take a look with me?"
As he spoke, Mark led Butterfree toward the Kakuna's new location.
A few days earlier, the Ekans Territory had expanded. Since the Kakuna could not move, these several dozen Kakuna had been forced to remain in the Caterpie Territory, silently enduring the Ekans swarm's ravages.
Fortunately, the Kakuna's defenses were fairly good.
And since they remained completely still, the violent Ekans lost much of their interest in attacking them.
After the territorial battle, none of the eighty-odd Kakuna had died. Only a dozen or so had suffered minor injuries, and they had all recovered by now.
The only problem was that the Kakuna's habitat had been left in complete disarray, so Mark relocated them to an entirely new site.
But after being moved there, the Kakuna always felt uncomfortable. When asked why, they could not explain it.
Of course, that was not the important part.
The important part was that even after moving the Kakuna back to their original location, they still said they felt uncomfortable.
In fact, if Butterfree had not returned this time, Mark had planned to go back to Clear
