Inner Court Rivalry and Evil Fire

Ma Xiaotao was one of the Inner Court’s foremost students, known for her violent flames, confidence, and rivalry with ice specialist Ling Luochen. As the Evil Fire Phoenix, she frequently dueled Ling Luochen partly to vent the evil fire within her body, though Ling Luochen’s ice could only provide limited relief. 25 28

At Level 63, her talent placed her among Shrek’s most formidable young Soul Emperors. However, the same martial soul that made her powerful also threatened to erupt whenever her emotions and Soul Power were pushed too far. 39

Duel with Zhou Sichen

After defeating Ling Luochen, Ma Xiaotao challenged newly arrived Inner Court student Zhou Sichen, offering thirty points if he could satisfy her in battle. She faced his contracted Ice Jade Scorpion, Hellfire Bird, and Darkgold Dreadclaw Bear without retreating, employing Phoenix Rebirth, Phoenix Wing Sky Soar, and Phoenix Piercing Cloud Strike. 25 27

Zhou’s Extreme Ice, Soul Beast pressure, and Level 4 Soul Tool Cannon Platform steadily exhausted her Soul Power. Refusing to accept defeat, Ma Xiaotao began drawing on her unstable evil fire until Yan Shaozhe intervened. 28

Zhou then fused with his Ice Jade Scorpion and used Extreme Ice to suppress the evil fire precisely. The treatment allowed Ma Xiaotao to cultivate and use her martial soul without adverse effects for approximately three months. 29

Purification of the Fire Phoenix

Ma Xiaotao became increasingly direct with Zhou Sichen after he helped her. She accepted his agreement to maintain a façade for Yan Shaozhe while being open about her own feelings and intentions. 56

Zhou later gave her three Sunflower Seeds to permanently remove the evil fire and improve her cultivation. She asked him to guard her during the refinement process, trusting him with her safety. 97 The process resolved her long-standing affliction, changed her martial soul into a genuine Fire Phoenix, and raised her Soul Power to Level 67. 98

Shrek Team and Tournament

Ma Xiaotao joined Zhou Sichen and Ye Guyi on a supervisory mission to Mori City, where the three were dispatched against Evil Soul Masters. Though only Level 67, her Fire Phoenix and proximity to Extreme Fire gave her combat ability comparable to an ordinary Soul Saint. 109

After obtaining her Seventh Soul Ring, she became one of Shrek Team’s two Soul Saints for the Continental Advanced Soul Master Elite Tournament. Zhou Sichen also equipped her with the Phoenix Divine Spear and arranged spear training under Cai Meier. 140 141

During Shrek’s battle against Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy, Ma Xiaotao and Ye Guyi combined Angel’s Holy Light with Phoenix Flame. Later, Ma Rulong’s Sword of Judgment triggered a further sublimation of Ma Xiaotao’s Phoenix bloodline, purging black fire and awakening Extreme Fire. 180 198

Later Cultivation

Following deep meditation beneath the Golden Tree, Ma Xiaotao broke through to Seven Rings and nearly reached Level 74 while gaining substantial control over Extreme Fire. Ma Xiaotao is fiercely competitive and takes great pride in her strength. Even while being overwhelmed by Zhou Sichen’s Soul Beasts, ice restraint, and Soul Tools, she refused to concede and tried to force out more power from her evil fire. 28

Unlike the demure image expected of her, Ma Xiaotao prefers a blunt and direct approach. She openly sought out Zhou Sichen, challenged him to repeated spars, and chose honesty over pretense when confronting her feelings. 56 58

Her confidence can become possessiveness and jealousy, particularly around Zhou Sichen. When Xu Jiujiu arrived at Shrek, Ma Xiaotao eagerly volunteered to accompany her in order to keep her from spending too much time alone with him. 218
