Before coming to Golden Gallon Port, Sunni had always believed the residents here were conservative, feudal, and even somewhat stubborn.
Like the believers in the Spirit of the Sand Sea in Sunset Glow Province, they always carried a handful of rust-smelling sand in their pockets.
Thieves never dared cut the pockets of those people. After all, if they lost money, they would only call the police. But if someone made the sand in their pockets disappear, they truly dared to kill.
To avoid offending the locals—and to avoid being beaten to death by a girl's family while trying to court her—he had carefully consulted a Moon Tribe girl working at the Yiren Bar in Fries Port back when he was still in the southern seas. He had studied the religions, taboos, customs, and all sorts of other matters in Boro Province, even writing them down in a little notebook he carried with him. He could be said to have done his homework thoroughly.
Yet when he truly arrived in Golden Gallon Port, he discovered that what he heard and what he saw were completely different things.
There simply were not that many twists, turns, or taboos here.
The locals' conservatism applied only to themselves. Toward outsiders like him, they were not conservative at all—if anything, they were more open than he could have imagined.
There were bars in Fries Port, and on Ring Island too, but no one there had such terrible alcohol tolerance that they would get drunk after one sip of beer, collapse into his arms, and blow into his ear.
