"Roar—!!"
The resounding roar pierced through the billowing smoke and shattered the fear clinging to the battlefield.
A mutant covered in shrapnel struggled up from a crooked trench, picked up the machine gun that had been knocked loose by the shockwave and fallen at its feet, chambered a round with a click, and set it back on the edge of the twisted trench.
There was a full ten-thousand-strong mutant force stationed on the beach.
However, the more than ten thousand mutants were not crowded together on the shore. Instead, they had built a layered defensive line with a depth of five kilometers.
The highly saline, alkaline beach and soil were unsuitable for the proliferation of Nago mycelium. Thus, Torch had not spread the "Kingdom of Heaven" over the coastal area and had instead left it to the mutants to defend.
Though blue-skinned mutants and green-skinned mutants came from the same stock, they clearly did not get along.
"Stay behind the cover!" a mutant centurion roared crudely, tossing a blue-skinned fishman out of the trench. "You! Don't stay behind cover. Get into the sea and hold them back!"
"Click??"
The chattering of gunfire came from behind. Bullets whizzed over its head, and the fishman scrambled forward, not forgetting to shoot a vicious glare back over its shoulder.
Yet its bedraggled appearance earned no sympathy from its allies.
The green-skinned mutants laughed loudly and fired another burst at the scaled feet beneath it.
Though the naval bombardment had come fiercely, it had not actually killed many mutants.
These things possessed extraordinarily tenacious vitality, especially the few "zombie mutants" altered through biotechnology. Even if they lost their heads, they could grow them back.
And that was not all.
Compared to their brethren who had died on Ten Peaks Mountain, they were much better
