"Do I really have to die before the Life Codex can be extracted?"
Clark was practically on the verge of tears. He even felt a little resentful toward his father, Jor-El. In truth, he had already had some guesses about Jor-El's intentions.
That nonsense about Clark being the only naturally born Kryptonian in tens of thousands of years was just an excuse.
Clark possessed the finest genes of every Kryptonian. In other words, he could take up any profession and reach its absolute pinnacle.
Put another way, Jor-El had carved the Life Codex into Clark's body out of selfish motives. He wanted Clark to truly become someone capable of anything in the future.
While natural birth did make it possible to pursue any profession, how could someone be genetically suited to reach the very best in every single field?
It was already incredibly difficult to become the best in one industry, let alone for Superman Clark to achieve the highest level in every profession. Wasn't that all because of the Life Codex?
Could it be that Jor-El's genes were simply so powerful that any child he produced would truly be capable of anything?
So it was really, "My son Kal-El has the bearing of a great emperor"?
What a joke. Jor-El himself was merely a product of Kryptonian genetic engineering. His genes were geared toward scientific research, making him a born scientist. Under normal circumstances, Kal-El—Clark—who inherited Jor-El's genes, should have been inclined toward scientific research as well.
If not?
Other than the slim possibility of genetic mutation, the only plausible explanation was that Clark was not his biological son, but the neighbor's kid...
As for saving the Kryptonian race?
Maybe that had only been lip service. Judging from Jor-El's actions, there was no sign whatsoever that he had acted
