The monster, with only one eye remaining, went completely mad. Its fists slammed violently toward Gu Ding one after another. Under the relentless barrage, like a raging storm, Gu Ding could only flee in all directions in a sorry state.
Even with the Third Level of the Limitless Body Technique activated, the footwork of Shadow Step could barely keep up with the giant beast's attack speed. At other times, he could only use Steel Fist to deflect the force, then rely on Gale Body to withstand the blows head-on.
In less than two minutes, Gu Ding could clearly feel that both his arms had gone numb. Several of his ribs had broken, and waves of pain came from inside his chest. His internal organs had clearly suffered a certain degree of shock damage.
This can't go on. I'll definitely be killed. With a thought, Gu Ding prepared to activate the Fourth Level of the Limitless Body Technique.
"If you don't activate the Fourth Level, you might still have a chance to survive. If you do, you'll definitely die!" Sea Emperor's tone was grave. "You're only a First Order Gene Body right now. Activating the Fourth Level of the Limitless Body Technique will only double your combat strength, and you still won't be able to break through its defenses. Once you activate the Fourth Level, when that power fades, every cell in your body will rapidly age and die. Unless a god descends, no one will be able to save you."
"Once I fall, it will definitely charge at Liliath." It was the first time Gu Ding had encountered such a difficult situation. Just as Sea Emperor had said, he had no chance of victory at all. But all he could do now was endure.
"If you activate the Fourth Level, you'll only fall faster." Sea Emperor offered a more convincing argument. "Tell her to run now."
"Lili, leave now! I can't hold on much longer. Run as far away as you can!" Gu Ding shouted.
Liliath hesitated for a moment, then clenched her fists as though she had made up her mind and shouted at Gu Ding, "Lure it over here and make it face my direction. I have a way to kill it!"
"Don't be foolish. Its defenses are too strong. Run now; I'll catch up later." Gu Ding thought Liliath wanted to draw the giant beast's attention so that he would have a chance to escape.
"Lure it over here. As long as it sees my eyes, I have a way to kill it," Liliath shouted at Gu Ding again.
"Lure the monster over. This little girl has a Pupil Technique. If you do as she says, the two of you still have a slim chance of survival." Sea Emperor had always known that Liliath possessed bloodline eyes, an inherited ability originating from her genes. Eye-type abilities were generally very powerful, but Sea Emperor was not certain what kind of ability this little girl's eyes had inherited. Still, since she said so now, she should have some confidence.
Hearing that, Gu Ding was still somewhat hesitant. If Liliath's ability could not kill the monster, she would face the threat of death.
"Interstellar Pirates have an unwritten rule—trust your teammates. If you can't even do that, then you're not suited to be an Interstellar Pirate. Those who carry everything on their own are lone wanderers. No matter how great a lone wanderer may be, they will never be an outstanding Interstellar Pirate." Sea Emperor knew that if Gu Ding continued forcing himself to hold on, he might truly not make it. He had to persuade Gu Ding to accept Liliath's proposal.
"I understand!" Only after hearing that did Gu Ding change the direction in which he was evading, darting toward Liliath's position.
Seeing that Gu Ding had followed her suggestion, Liliath stood motionless where she was and slowly closed her eyes. Listening to the giant beast's approaching footsteps, her heart became completely calm. A moment later, her eyes suddenly snapped open. Her pupils had turned golden as they locked tightly onto the giant beast's sole remaining eye.
When the giant beast saw Liliath's eyes, it abruptly stopped. The beast that had been crazily pursuing Gu Ding seemed to have been immobilized, becoming completely unable to move.
"This is..." Gu Ding was utterly stunned by the sight.
A moment later, the giant beast began letting out agonized howls. It even dropped to its knees and desperately smashed its head against the ground. In just over ten seconds, its enormous head had been completely deformed, yet it still did not stop, continuing to ram the ground frantically.
In less than a minute, the giant beast's movements finally slowed. Only half of its head remained, and its body finally collapsed to the ground, barely clinging to life.
Only then did Liliath's eyes return to normal. Her body went limp, and she collapsed onto the ground. Weakly, she said to Gu Ding, "It won't live much longer. We should leave this place as soon as possible."
"Gu Ding, there's an Energy Crystal Nucleus inside that big fellow's head. Go dig it out quickly. That thing might allow you to advance to a Second-Order Gene Body."
Just as Gu Ding was about to carry Liliath away, he suddenly heard Sea Emperor's voice.
He froze for a moment, then walked toward the giant beast. With his armament covering him, he easily reached into the beast's head, which had only half of it left. A moment later, he felt a tiny, hard object and pulled it out with force.
It was a white crystal orb the size of a little finger, smooth and round like a pearl.
He held the crystal orb out to Liliath. "Your spoils of war."
Liliath had watched everything Gu Ding had done just now. Seeing the slime still clinging to his hand, she shifted backward, afraid that Gu Ding would hand the thing to her. "No, it's too disgusting. Keep it for yourself."
"Can't we just find a place to wash it clean later?" This was not the first time Gu Ding had felt that he could not understand women's thoughts. Even Auntie Rose, who looked like a man, was often impossible to figure out.
For example, whenever someone mistakenly called Auntie Rose "uncle," she would fly into a rage regardless of the occasion and beat the other person senseless. Incidents like that happened several times at Rose Tavern almost every year. There were always plenty of spectators watching the excitement, but no one had ever stepped in to stop it.
In Gu Ding's view, such behavior was entirely unnecessary. All she had to do was correct the other person, and they would not get it wrong next time. There was no need to be so violent. Still, every time something like this happened, the tavern became especially lively. Gu Ding had always liked lively scenes, so he was more than happy to see such things happen.
"No. Keep the Energy Crystal Orb for yourself. I've never used this kind of thing." Liliath actually knew very well what Gu Ding was holding, but she truly had never used such things since childhood.
"Alright, then I'll owe you one. I'll repay you next time." Seeing that she knew it was an Energy Crystal Orb yet still refused to accept it, Gu Ding could only put it into his storage backpack.
"No need. You're the captain, so all spoils of war should be kept with you. If any other members need something later, they can just ask you for it." Liliath truly seemed to have decided to follow Gu Ding and become an Interstellar Pirate. She curved her lips into a smile. "Don't keep it with me. I only know how to spend money, not save it."
"Alright, we'll do that for now. It looks like we really need to find a companion who knows how to manage money... It's a pity Reed isn't willing to become an Interstellar Pirate..." Gu Ding had always felt that it was a waste of Reed's talents not to become an Interstellar Pirate.
"Who's Reed?" Carried on Gu Ding's back, Liliath found a topic to chat about.
"Reed? He's my deskmate at the Deep Sea Star Military Academy. He's amazing, good at deduction, and he's even a Senior Lawyer..."
