"Listen up," Chu Han said in a low voice. "Before they get up here, we're making a break for it."
He hadn't intended to stay and defend this place from the start. He had no obligation to the people hiding indoors. The zombies would only keep coming, and leaving was the only way.
Survival was the most important thing!
"What?!" Ye Tianlong suddenly shouted, his tone aggressive. "Make a break for it?! With this many zombies, how do we do that? If you have strength and ability, you should be a police officer, right? How can you abandon us?!"
Ye Tianlong's voice was loud, almost a furious roar at maximum volume, echoing deafeningly through the entire stairwell. He also used moral pressure, and many of the survivors who hadn't left were infected by his emotion, looking at Chu Han with blame.
That's right! You have strength and means, you have two women and a gun. Are you police officers? Were you sent by the country to protect us? How can you just abandon us!
The zombies below, engrossed in their feeding, quickly heard the commotion above. Several zombies on the outer edge, who hadn't gotten any meat, quickly abandoned Lu Wan's corpse and charged over with howls. The zombies coming in from outside were not to be outdone, swarming up the stairs one by one. Their numbers were immense, a dense sea of pale, white pupils as far as the eye could see.
"You!" Chen Shaoye said angrily, "Did you do this on purpose?"
Chu Han ignored Ye Tianlong, not even looking back.
A ruthless glint appeared in Ye Tianlong's eyes. He wanted all the zombies to come; that way, these annoying people would die! As for himself, as long as he could snatch the gun from the little girl's hand amidst their panic, he wouldn't have to fear the zombies. He had several subordinates, enough to help him escape.
Click—
Just then, a gun was suddenly pressed against Ye Tianlong's waist.
Eighteen's expression was intriguing. She wasn't tall, but her gaze was cold enough. "If you dare make another sound, I'll kill you!"
Finally, she suddenly let out a smile with an unknown meaning.
"I've killed people before."
A drop of cold sweat trickled down Ye Tianlong's face. He forcibly suppressed the rage in his eyes and put on a sheepish smile.
Roar—
The fastest zombie was already upon them!
Chu Han gripped his axe tightly, his arms exerting force. The axe blade emitted a bright gleam.
Bang! He smashed it hard against the zombie's head!
Crack! The zombie fell with a snap, rolling down the stairs and knocking over several other zombies that hadn't dodged.
Chu Han took a step forward, his axe never stopping. He chopped fiercely in front of his chest. With one swing, several zombies were knocked down simultaneously, but none died. It only bought them some time.
"Try not to shoot," Chu Han said to Shang Jiudi when he had a moment. "They have hearing."
"Understood," Shang Jiudi replied crisply.
Chen Shaoye followed Chu Han's pace, taking a step forward, but due to fear, he missed his swings several times.
Bang bang bang—
Before the zombies could get back up, Chu Han rushed forward, smashing their heads at high speed.
Thick black blood, yellow-white brain matter. The scene was as bloody as a hellish inferno.
Chu Han showed no extra emotion. While smashing, he even remembered to instruct Chen Shaoye, "Fatty, calm yourself down first. They're very slow, you can definitely handle them."
Chen Shaoye nodded fiercely. He glanced at Ye Tianlong, whose face was full of malice and who was clearly plotting something. He suddenly felt like an idiot!
It was obvious why he had inexplicably fallen asleep. He had witnessed Ye Tianlong's cruelty with his own eyes. Compared to the seemingly cold Chu Han, who, despite never saying anything nice to him, had never put him in grave danger. In fact, he had been dedicated to training him, teaching him how to deal with zombies and how to survive in the apocalypse.
Without Chu Han, his fate would probably be the same as Lu Wan's!
"Boss, I'll listen to you from now on!" Chen Shaoye gritted out for no apparent reason.
Chu Han felt inexplicably confused but didn't have the time to deal with him. The zombies in front of him were increasing, and if they didn't speed up, they would truly be in danger.
Roar roar roar—
Wave after wave of zombies soon filled the staircase, a dense mass of putrid, pale faces and stench.
Forget breaking out; Chu Han and the others were now struggling to move, seemingly about to be overwhelmed by the horde.
They opened their mouths, tirelessly surging towards the group, revealing foul, rotten tongues and increasingly sharp teeth.
The impatient zombies let out cries of excitement from their throats. Some were even chewing the air, desperately gnashing their gums at the humans within reach but just out of grasp, producing a chilling clicking sound.
Chu Han desperately swung his axe. His body, hands, face, and even his nose and mouth were covered in the zombies' rotten flesh and black blood.
Chen Shaoye swung his fire axe with frantic desperation. His high-speed attacks carved out a vacuum in the air before him. He was fat, and correspondingly, had more strength.
He felt filled with power. Following the boss meant good things!
Beep—
Suddenly, the Reforging System emitted a synthesized mechanical voice.
"Chen Shaoye's loyalty has reached 80%. The point redemption system is now active."
"Chen Shaoye has not killed a single zombie. Host has gained 0.2 points."
A barely perceptible light flashed in Chu Han's eyes. Companions whose loyalty reached 80% could actually earn him points!
Although 0.2 was very little, it was better than nothing!
He glanced at Chen Shaoye. As if spurred by a desire to survive, Chen Shaoye now had several zombie corpses lying before him. The thick, black, viscous blood had already soaked up to the fatty's calves. The scene was exceptionally bloody and violent.
Chu Han pursed his lips. This fatty, though timid and cowardly, wasn't entirely useless!
Zhang Ziyu and Gu Xiaotong curled up, trembling all over as they hid behind the others. They didn't dare pick up their weapons, let alone look up. Yet, they wanted to survive and placed all their hope on Chu Han.
Eighteen's face was pale, but her forehead was covered in sweat. She was terrified, truly terrified. She didn't know what these zombies were, nor why the world had suddenly become like this. But she remembered Chu Han's words, her hands still gripping the gun tightly, the muzzle pressed against Ye Tianlong. For a twelve-year-old girl, such psychological fortitude was already heaven-defying.
Time marched on, and several hours had already passed.
Chu Han and the others couldn't move an inch. These infected creatures surged forward relentlessly, an endless horde like a flood.
Their numbers had long surpassed two hundred, possibly even exceeding three hundred!
Gazing at the stairwell ahead, it was densely packed with zombies.
Despair—
Gripped everyone's hearts!
