On the defensive line ahead of the city, many people whispered to one another over the communications channel.
Clearly, the formidable attacks displayed earlier by the mechs of those two squads, as well as their complete refusal to evade incoming fire, had left them with little confidence in the effectiveness of their own attack!
Many even suspected that the enemy mechs might have been equipped with Spatial Shields. If that were true, their previous barrage might indeed have accomplished nothing.
However, that was merely speculation from ordinary soldiers below. The higher-ranking officers did not think so.
They knew that something like a Spatial Shield Generator was basically impossible to miniaturize. That was no longer a problem technology could solve.
And in fact, just as those Blazing Fire Empire officers had thought, the Federation had not miniaturized Spatial Shield Generators to the point where they could be installed in mechs.
However, unlike other civilizations, even after reaching Level 5 Civilization and acquiring Spatial Shields, the Federation had continued to delve deeply into Energy Shield Technology.
It could be said that the Energy Shield Technology of Level 4 Civilizations was merely entry-level. Once they became Level 5 Civilizations and obtained more powerful Spatial Shields, nearly all civilizations abandoned further research into Energy Shields.
