The flaw with back was that it could only rewind one minute. Dong Xuebin had no way of predicting what would happen after Da Qin Railway rapidly hit its daily limit.
Half a minute passed. Da Qin Railway's limit-up board opened again, surged briefly, then pulled back to a 6.28% gain.
Even so, Zhou Changchun's excitement did not diminish in the slightest.
To be honest, this was the first time Zhou Changchun had admired someone so much in the field of stocks. He figured that with Dong Xuebin's ability to observe ultra-short-term movements, none of those TV stock commentators or analysts could compare to Little Dong. They were behind by more than just one level.
Who dared to boast in front of him that a particular stock would definitely rise the next moment? Who dared to pound their chest and guarantee that a stock with no signs of falling was about to plunge sharply? Only Little Dong dared—and he had been right every time.
Zhou Changchun looked at Dong Xuebin beside him. The more he looked, the more pleasing Dong Xuebin seemed. He really did have a capable man under him.
"Come, have some water." Zhou Changchun lowered himself enough to pour Dong Xuebin a cup of water in a disposable paper cup.
Dong Xuebin hurriedly stood up with both hands outstretched. "No, no, thank you, Director. I'll do it myself, myself."
Zhou Changchun gave a kind, genial chuckle and patted his shoulder, motioning for him to sit. "You don't need to be so polite with me from now on. From the first day you entered the office, I knew you weren't ordinary. Haha, see? I guessed right, didn't I? Ordinary people can't compare to your skill at analyzing short-term trends."
"You flatter me."
The more Dong Xuebin listened, the more hypocritical he found those words.
When he had first met Zhou Changchun, Zhou Changchun had pulled a face because Dong Xuebin had called him "Deputy Director." Then there was that time in the office when Dong Xuebin had not gotten his sitting posture right. If not for back backing him up, Zhou Changchun probably still would not be giving him a pleasant look now.
You thought I wasn't ordinary the moment you met me? Keep spinning your nonsense. I'd be an idiot to believe you.
Look at that. This was the government office.
The water ran deep, and so did the people.
Water personally poured by a leader had to be drunk clean. After finishing it, Dong Xuebin said, "Director Zhou, should I go back out and work?"
Zhou Changchun nodded. "If you run into any difficulties, tell me as soon as possible. Go get busy."
When he returned to the large outer office, Tan Limei, Chang Juan, and the others all turned to look at him. Only then did Dong Xuebin remember that he still had the matter with Guo Shunjie waiting for him. Anger rose in his heart again. Seeing that Guo Shunjie had not returned yet, he casually sat back down in his chair and went about his work.
We've already fallen out anyway. Let him do whatever he wants.
Zhuangzi seemed to want to say something, but in the end, he said nothing.
Suddenly, the main door opened and Guo Shunjie strolled in.
The atmosphere in the General Office immediately grew tense. Dong Xuebin did not even glance at him and kept clattering away at the keyboard as he drafted his document.
When Guo Shunjie saw that the water jug on the dispenser was still empty, he felt that his authority had taken a serious blow. His expression changed at once. He strode over, pointed at Dong Xuebin's nose, and said viciously, "Well, well, kid. I can't even order you to carry a jug of water? You really think you're somebody now?"
Dong Xuebin met his gaze coldly. "No, you're the one who thinks you're somebody."
Guo Shunjie darkened his face and grabbed Dong Xuebin by the collar. "Kid, I'll give you one last chance. Go bring back a jug of water right now, hear me?" He thought Zhou Changchun had not arrived at work yet, so he made no effort to control his voice.
Lao Yan shouted, "Guo Shunjie, that's enough!"
Tan Limei glanced toward Director Zhou's office and raised her voice even louder than Lao Yan. "Don't start fighting. Talk it out properly!"
Chang Juan and Guo Panwei also did not tell Guo Shunjie that Director Zhou had already arrived. The two of them stood nearby, watching the show.
"Talk it out properly? I already talked to him properly!" Guo Shunjie suppressed his anger. "But he doesn't have any respect at all for the old hands in the General Office!"
Dong Xuebin knew that Tan Limei and Lao Yan were shouting so loudly because they wanted to draw Director Zhou out and help him out of this situation for the moment. With that in mind, an idea suddenly occurred to him. He blinked and softened his tone. "I had something to do just now. I didn't get around to it."
Seeing that he had "softened," Guo Shunjie became even more arrogant. "Something to do? What was it?"
Dong Xuebin deliberately did not say that Director Zhou had summoned him. Instead, he set a verbal trap. "Something pretty important."
"Important?" Guo Shunjie gripped his collar even tighter and snapped, "What could be more important than drinking water and eating? Huh? I come back after finishing my business and can't even get a sip of hot water, yet you still have the mind to do something else? Whatever it is, put it aside!"
The door creaked open. It was the door to the small office.
"...Director Zhou."
"Director Zhou."
"Uh, you're here?" Guo Shunjie was not too nervous. He slowly withdrew the hand clutching Dong Xuebin's collar and tried to strike first. "Director Zhou, Little Dong really is..."
Zhou Changchun did not look very happy. Staring into Guo Shunjie's eyes, he cut him off. "I was the one who called Little Dong in just now to handle something. Were those words meant for me, then?"
Guo Shunjie froze. "Huh? I... I didn't know. I didn't..."
Zhou Changchun rebuked him, "Then I'd like to hear it. Is your business important, or is mine important? Huh? Is your business urgent, or is mine urgent? Huh? What do you mean by that? Little Dong has to bring you water first before he can work for me? Huh? Are you the director, or am I?"
Guo Shunjie knew he had misspoken and hurriedly said, "I... I didn't mean that..."
"Yelling during work hours and grabbing a colleague by the collar? Were you planning to hit him or something? Huh? What do you think this place is? Do you have any respect for your leaders at all? Huh?" Zhou Changchun kept a stern face, and his next words were clearly biased in Dong Xuebin's favor. "Couldn't you have just called Lao Wang to deliver the water? Why did you have to single out Little Dong? Did Little Dong provoke you somehow? Huh?"
Guo Shunjie had lost a tremendous amount of face, and his face turned bright red. "No, no. I'll call Lao Wang right now." But unfortunately, no one answered on the other end. "...Lao Wang isn't here."
Zhou Changchun gave him another sharp scolding. "If he isn't here, does that mean everyone in the office goes without water?"
Guo Shunjie had never expected that one slip of the tongue would provoke such anger from Zhou Changchun. He regretted it bitterly and said dejectedly, "I'll go carry the water. I'll go."
Guo Panwei glanced at Dong Xuebin in slight surprise. He had not expected Director Zhou to stand up for him. It seemed he could not casually order Dong Xuebin around in the future.
Dong Xuebin played innocent after gaining the upper hand. "Director Zhou, I'm also responsible for this. I should have replaced the water first."
Zhou Changchun waved his hand. "Next time, call Lao Wang for that kind of heavy work." He also felt that Guo Shunjie had recently become increasingly arrogant, so he intentionally used this opportunity to give him a warning. Otherwise, if this went on, would Guo Shunjie not eventually stop respecting even him, the director? Zhou Changchun had indeed always been rather polite to him, but that was because Zhou Changchun respected the political commissar, not because he feared Guo Shunjie. He had never heard of a leader fearing a subordinate. Even if the political commissar had been Guo Shunjie's biological father, Guo Shunjie would still have to listen to Zhou Changchun on this patch of turf called the General Office.
Not long afterward, Guo Shunjie returned with a large bottled-water jug slung over his shoulder. Panting heavily, he set it onto the dispenser. He had probably rarely done physical labor, and it took him quite a while to replace the jug. He even accidentally splashed water all over himself. Both his expression and appearance were utterly bedraggled.
Watching Guo Shunjie's dejected state, Dong Xuebin felt unbelievably satisfied. Weren't you acting all high and mighty? Didn't you love ordering people around? Now you know what it feels like to be ordered around, huh?
Lao Yan and Chang Juan secretly smiled in schadenfreude.
Under the desk, Tan Limei quietly gave Dong Xuebin an admiring thumbs-up.
Quite a few people in the General Office had experienced Guo Shunjie's domineering behavior. Seeing him suffer a setback now, everyone was delighted. They also began reassessing Dong Xuebin's influence. It seemed Director Zhou had been valuing him quite highly lately.
Another third update. Can everyone give me a few more Recommendation Tickets? Thanks.
