Why Is There Another Person Under the Covers? (Part One)
That afternoon, at the Dong Family home.
In the living room, Dong Xuebin and Guo Panwei drank cup after cup as they chatted. With a little alcohol in him, Dong Xuebin told Pan Wei about some of his glorious achievements after going to Yantai County—rescuing hostages at a school, saving people during a landslide, and so on. Guo Panwei was utterly amazed and immediately showered him with compliments. Though they sounded like flattery, they were mostly sincere. Guo Panwei had always greatly admired Director Dong, this seemingly omnipotent leader. Back when he was in the General Office, he had witnessed many of Director Dong's miracles.
"Today's a happy day, Pan Wei. Drink!"
"Old leader, this toast is to you."
"Good, bottoms up, bottoms up. Sister Yu, have a drink too."
"M-Me? I've never had baijiu. I'm afraid..."
"I'll pour you a glass." Guo Panwei proactively filled one for her.
Yu Meixia saw that there was no way around it. "Th-Then, all right."
One glass...
Two glasses...
Three glasses...
Little Qian Qian had finished eating long ago and gone back to her room for an afternoon nap, leaving only Yu Meixia to keep them company.
By the time a bottle of Wuliangye had gone into the three of them, Dong Xuebin was already fairly drunk. Yu Meixia had a low tolerance; after just one glass, she was swaying unsteadily, her entire face flushed red. Guo Panwei did not offer any more drinks. After chatting for a while longer and seeing that Dong Xuebin was starting to slur his words, he helped Dong Xuebin onto the sofa. After waiting a moment, Guo Panwei said goodbye and left the Dong Family home.
Only Yu Meixia and Dong Xuebin remained in the living room.
