The next day.
Sunday, early morning.
The moment Dong Xuebin opened his eyes, he impatiently called Cheng Yandong. They had exchanged phone numbers when they parted at noon yesterday.
Beep, beep, beep. The call connected.
"Hello, is this Director Dong?"
"It's me. Team Leader Cheng, have you had breakfast?"
"I just got up. Haven't had the chance yet."
"Perfect. Let me treat you to breakfast here in Guangming Street. There's something else I wanted to talk to you about."
Cheng Yandong paused. "...All right. Tell me where, and I'll take a taxi over."
After arranging a place, Dong Xuebin climbed out of bed in high spirits. After brushing his teeth and washing up, he drove early to a restaurant that also served breakfast and waited for him.
Ten minutes later, Cheng Yandong got out of a taxi.
"Have you been waiting long?"
"No, I just got here too. Please, sit."
The two sat down and called over a server, casually ordering several breakfast items.
Before long, Cheng Yandong pulled out a napkin and wiped his mouth. "Right, you said you had something to discuss?"
Dong Xuebin nodded. "It's still about the jadeite necklace. Didn't I say yesterday that I'd ask around for you? Well, I've got the results."
Cheng Yandong did not seem very hopeful. "Oh? How did it go?"
After thinking it over, Dong Xuebin simply smiled and reached into his pants pocket, taking out a transparent plastic bag and handing it to him. "Take a look."
At first, Cheng Yandong truly did not think much of it. He had made quite a few calls yesterday afternoon and evening, but the answers had all been the same. Porcelain could be covered up and concealed for the most part, but jadeite and jade could absolutely not be repaired or restored.
