Amid the distant crackle of firecrackers, a sparring match was underway in the courtyard. Dong Xuebin was trading blows with a security guard and was clearly at a disadvantage, yet the other man could not do much to him either. They had been fighting for a full three minutes, but the guard still had not taken Dong Xuebin down.
"Again!" the guard shouted.
Dong Xuebin gave a wry smile. "How about we leave it at that?"
"We haven't decided a winner yet!" said the guard.
Dong Xuebin said helplessly, "Is that really necessary? It's just a sparring match."
"Mr. Dong, could you show some real skill?" the guard said solemnly. "That would also be showing me respect. I know you haven't gone all out!"
"It's New Year's. Do we really have to do this?"
"I truly want to spar with you today. Please do me the honor!"
Before his words had even faded, the guard charged at Dong Xuebin again, and the two resumed fighting.
