In the small dining room on the west side of the first floor.
Zhang Longjuan and Dong Xuebin sat facing each other. Two steaming plates of steak sat on the table, charred nicely and glistening with oil, looking quite appetizing.
"Come on, Little Dong, give it a try."
"Ah, thanks for the hospitality."
"No need to be polite with me. Eat."
"Mm. Whew, it tastes good. I really was hungry."
"Then eat more. Oh, right, I'll get some wine. How could you eat steak without red wine?"
"Ah, no need, no need. It's too late. This is just a midnight snack."
"Fine wine on a lovely night—that's what gives it flavor. Haha, besides, it helps you sleep."
Zhang Longjuan ignored him and went to rummage through the wine cabinet. In the end, she pulled out a bottle of red wine. "This is the only bottle at home. Make do with it."
The label was in French or some other language. Dong Xuebin could not read it anyway, but he knew the wine was probably expensive. After thinking it over, he braced himself and found two wineglasses to drink with Big Sister Zhang. She had picked him up from the airport, let him stay the night, and even made him a late-night meal. He could not refuse her this small courtesy.
Zhang Longjuan smiled and nodded. "That's more like it."
Dong Xuebin raised his glass. "Sister Zhang, let me toast you first."
"Fine, cheers!" Zhang Longjuan casually raised her wineglass and clinked it against his. After the clear chime, she lifted the glass and gulped it down in huge mouthfuls.
Dong Xuebin knew red wine was supposed to be sipped, not downed in one go. He had originally planned to take a token sip. Who knew Zhang Longjuan
