Seven days later.
Saturday morning.
Xie Ran and Fang Shuiling's engagement banquet was only a few days away. Dong Xuebin had already informed Zhang Dongfang and several of the county's key leaders that he would not be leaving for another three days or so, planning to rest for a while. But a phone call that morning changed his mind.
It was from Zhang Longjuan.
He had no idea what time it was over on Fu Continent due to the time difference, but Zhang Longjuan sounded as though she was about to go to sleep, her voice lazy and languid.
"Kid," Zhang Longjuan said.
"Sister Zhang." Dong Xuebin had only been awake for a short while.
"I need to tell you something." Zhang Longjuan got straight to the point. "Your Sister Zhang is pregnant, haha."
Dong Xuebin let out an ah. "When did this happen? Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"More than two months ago. I didn't know during the first month, and during the second, I was so busy and frazzled that I even forgot about my period. I didn't go to the hospital for a checkup until I was nearly three months along." She laughed. "Even the doctor was speechless, saying I was too careless to have been pregnant for so long without knowing it." After a pause, she added, "All right, that's all. I should get some sleep. You don't need to worry about things over here."
"I'll come see you another day," Dong Xuebin said.
"We'll talk if you have time. If not, forget it," Zhang Longjuan said.
Dong Xuebin insisted, "I'll definitely have time. It's my child. How could I not have time?"
Zhang Longjuan laughed. "At least you still have a conscience, kid. Not bad."
"You need to be more careful from now on.
