Late morning. Northern outskirts of Yantai County.
The crematorium bordered a mountain to the north. It covered a vast area and was desolate and empty.
It was Dong Xuebin's first time here. As soon as he drove in, he got a little lost and had no idea where the memorial service was being held. But when he saw dozens of cars with county Party committee and county government plates parked in the open area outside, he knew he had come to the right place. Not only was Xie Huilan's car there, but there were also cars belonging to the leaders of the county government's directly affiliated departments. There were even several luxury cars with Huitian Township and Beijing plates, all familiar brands.
He had finally arrived!
It looked like the ceremony had already started?
Seeing so many cars, Dong Xuebin felt rather gratified. It seemed he had been pretty well-liked after all. The funeral was quite grand.
After getting out of the car, Dong Xuebin slammed the door and took a couple of steps before spotting a staff member carrying equipment ahead of him. He immediately called out, "Excuse me, brother. Can I ask you something?"
The crematorium worker looked at him. "What is it?"
Dong Xuebin said, "I've been looking forever and can't find it. Where's my memorial service being held?"
The man froze, as though he had not heard clearly. "Whose memorial service?"
"...Mine." Dong Xuebin found it rather awkward to say.
"Yours?"
The crematorium worker gave him a sidelong glance and turned to leave. He had clearly taken Dong Xuebin for a lunatic. His own memorial service? If he was being memorialized, how could he still be standing here talking nonsense with him? He should be lying obediently in a coffin by now. Was this guy sick
