Background / History

Zi Nü's mutated martial soul awakened when she was six. Her family treated her as an omen of misfortune and expelled her, after which a stranger sold her to the Heaven Dou City Soul Fighting Arena. The Arena trained her to serve men and conditioned her into obedience rather than teaching her normal boundaries or a sense of right and wrong. 96 98

Other beast women at the Arena bullied Zi Nü for ten years. She did not resist because she could not defeat them, and the Arena ignored the abuse so long as it caused no deaths or lasting visible injuries. The trauma left her fearful of sleeping alone and prone to nightmares. 102 110 112

After Lu Leng earned higher Soul Fighting privileges, the Arena assigned Zi Nü to him as a Cat Girl servant and gave him a paired Soul Tool bracelet meant to restrict her movements. Her appearance beside him marked him as a Life-and-Death Match participant of high status. 91 92

Zi Nü instinctively entered Lu Leng's room when the evil energy within him erupted. She absorbed the energy, saving him from the immediate crisis and breaking from Level 9 to Level 15. This event revealed both her affinity for evil energy and the mystery of her malformed martial soul. 95 96

Lu Leng eventually shattered her restraining bracelet and gave her the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower. The herb resolved the defect in her martial soul, awakening it as the Void Devouring Soul Beast. 104 120 121
