Kawahara Machiko walked expressionlessly through the trading floor. The bracelet on her slender wrist vibrated, and she immediately silenced it. She had repeated this motion many times already.
"Executive Director Kawahara!" A subordinate behind her could not help reminding her. The call from the other side had gone directly to him. "It's the vice president... He insists that you take it."
"Hang up."
"Huh?"
"Hang up." Kawahara Machiko repeated herself, as though adding a footnote to her own choice.
She had been sent all the way to the Emerald Light as a disposable pawn. Neither the Auction House executives nor the shareholders above them believed that mere words and so-called "sincerity" could turn the youngest Extraordinary Species, who was increasingly revealing his sharp edge, from an enemy into a friend.
Besides, "sincerity" was nothing more than "sincerity."
No one was willing to raise the stakes and throw resources into a bottomless abyss of hatred that was destined to yield no return. Nor would they risk affecting the Amaterasu Order's "god's" impression of them over it.
This was merely a routine procedure. Kawahara Machiko had been sent here only because there were more reasons that could be dug up to justify it:
1. She was one of the rare women among the senior executives;
2. She was quite beautiful, and might fit Ronan's rumored tastes;
3. She had some so-called acquaintance with Kitayama Yukie, the woman Ronan had known in Slope City. In truth, they had merely met a few times at business functions.
All those so-called reasons had become complete bullshit after Kawahara Machiko failed to contact Kitayama Yukie.
Rather than dwell on those bullshit reasons, consider consequences that could not possibly get any worse, and waste more time enduring her superiors' harassment, she might as well take another gamble.
