Deng Chun was not particularly responsive when someone called him by name.
He merely lowered his head numbly. On the operating table, no longer covered by the Cloak, lay an aged, shriveled shell of a body. Multiple holes had been opened in it, yet very little blood flowed out.
The old man's eyes were wide open, his mouth slightly agape as he stared blankly at the ceiling, his body twitching uncontrollably.
Another person lay sprawled on the floor beside the operating table. He wore casual clothes, but his entire body was charred black, utterly devoid of aura.
Watching this scene, Deng Chun felt an immense absurdity filling the air. He slowly turned his head, mechanically sweeping his gaze over the people around him. Their expressions might have been exactly the same as his.
Someone else sternly shouted at him. It came from the bodyguard pressing a gun to the back of his head... including the one who had fired earlier:
"Mr. Deng Chun, step back. Step back immediately!"
Saying that after firing a shot was likely out of consideration for Extraordinary Power and the unpredictable security risks it brought. Otherwise, they probably would not even have added the word "Mr."
Deng Chun ignored him, or rather, he was not sure how to respond.
The bodyguard probably wanted to fire again, but recalling the previous result, he could not help hesitating.
The other staff and bodyguards were wary of hurting the innocent. They surrounded the operating table, poised to pounce at any moment, yet remained frozen in place.
The medical personnel closest to the operating table were also caught in a dilemma, unable to advance or retreat as agitation spread through them. Someone could not make sense of it at all:
