The scene of two Extraordinary Species facing off was deafening.
The demonic shadow of the Root System danced and lashed wildly atop Three Peaks Top, showing no signs of stopping. Parts of the mountain itself were flung loose, tumbling down the slope and raising faint clouds of dust. A few seconds later, the lingering shockwaves of the violent noise pushed the mountain wind along, grinding over the ground.
Long Qi's soles had gone a little numb. It felt as though the entire mountain range was trembling.
Mountain Lord's cold mockery seemed to have been drowned out by the tremors and strange noises. At the very least, it gave Joker no effective provocation.
Since Mountain Lord had turned his face away, Long Qi could not see his expression. All he could see was Joker's exaggerated, grinning half-face.
The latter had no intention of responding. He still shifted his feet frequently and without pause, while those dull gray eyes remained fixed on Mountain Lord. Paired with that grinning half-face, he seemed to be looking at something especially absurd and amusing.
Mountain Lord turned his neck slightly. His gaze appeared to follow Joker, but then it shifted again, seemingly toward Three Peaks Top.
Though he could not see his face, Long Qi could roughly sense the doubts in his heart.
So this was not just two Extraordinary Species. Hundred Peaks Monarch had to be counted too... and perhaps there were others?
Without Joker strangling him, Long Qi's mind began to work faster—or perhaps he was simply becoming paranoid.
There was no way today's "encounter" contained any "coincidence."
