After helping the new director familiarize himself with the work, Mei Zhu took his leave at an appropriate time, leaving behind a room full of smoke and an ashtray packed with cigarette butts. When he opened the door and went out, Phantom Shadow outside was eager to try something, but seeing that Lang Jin had not come out, he could only give up resentfully.
After the door closed, Lang Jin had intended to continue reporting other matters when Tang Li suddenly asked:
"Director Mei's lungs aren't in great shape?"
Knowing what he meant, Lang Jin nodded slightly. "He injured his lungs while on a mission a few years ago, but he couldn't quit smoking, so he got used to this."
There was one thing Lang Jin did not say aloud: it was merely psychological comfort, and did little good.
Tang Li merely smiled and skipped over the subject, giving an order instead. "Compile a list of the key people in this district connected to the Black Sun Sect and give it to me."
Lang Jin's heart tightened, and he quickly acknowledged the order.
After that, he waited a second. Seeing that Tang Li had nothing further to say, he carefully chose his words and spoke softly. "Some intelligence channels indicate that Councilor Guo Yuanying has maintained financial dealings with this sect."
Councilor Guo Yuanying was Tang Li's "benefactor."
From the sofa, Tang Li looked up at that and broke into a brilliant smile. "Very good."
Lang Jin lowered his head slightly, cast aside his stray thoughts, and continued reporting the other matters. He felt that Tang Li was not particularly focused either, responding with vague hums and acknowledgments. Yet he was indeed reading documents through the Virtual Work Area, so he probably had something else on his mind.
Sure enough,
