A few seconds later, Ronan's wristband reconnected to the signal. At that moment, the surging waves and roars on the sea rose to another crescendo, like thunder rumbling beside his ears.
Perhaps he was too close to the surface. Hovering barely a dozen centimeters above the churning waves, he was soon soaked by spray and mist, his newly changed shoes and trouser cuffs drenched. At the same time, vicious fangs snapped open and shut beneath his feet with sharp clicks.
They belonged to aberrant marine creatures packed densely amid the waves, pressed together in heaps.
At this location, sea snakes had clearly gathered in clusters. They drifted and stretched through the waves like dense seaweed, their black-and-white patterns all the more conspicuous. A closer look revealed masses of snake heads—perhaps thousands, perhaps tens of thousands—spewing a blue-green mist that looked anything but harmless.
Ronan frowned and saw that his newly changed shoes and trousers indeed bore corroded stains.
He rose a little higher, but quickly discovered that the entire area was already shrouded in toxic mist. It was not only the vast number of sea snakes below; other aberrant marine creatures with similar abilities had joined in as well.
Though the sea wind blew fiercely, carrying a considerable portion of the toxic mist toward the Coastline, sheer cliffs stood there, preventing the mist from crossing at once. Instead, it curled back and rapidly accumulated in this Near Sea Area.
When Ronan had thought the dawn light dim earlier, at least half of that had been due to the toxic mist obscuring it.
The coordinates given by the Martial Emperor were quite the trap... Anyone else would probably have already been dancing cheek-to-cheek with the sea snakes.
Ronan looked around, surveying the surrounding environment and getting his bearings.
