Deities were not omniscient or omnipotent. Otherwise, what purpose would their followers serve?
Uncovering secrets and reporting them promptly was also a way to please a deity and earn greater favor.
Not trying to be clever, not concealing anything, not jumping ahead, following procedure in everything, and remaining devout before his deity—together with his seniority and the special status of his "god-favored race," these were the safeguards that had kept him alive until now.
