Pie from the Sky (Part 2)

That ape was provoking them!

Perhaps the laser descending from the sky had disturbed its sweet dreams, or perhaps there was some other inexplicable reason. In any case, that thing was extremely hostile and had caused Woolf enormous trouble.

At a time like this, he had already forgotten what the sudden thought from earlier had been pointing toward. More than thirty alarm signals converged on the security system at once, making it seem as though a formidable enemy had launched a full-scale invasion. In the various seclusion areas, some more sensitive residents began making inquiries to the duty room. Others sent out probing senses, while some even called Woolf directly.

The constantly vibrating wristband disrupted his pulse, especially as one untouchable name after another flashed across it. It nearly gave him a heart attack.

"Reset the warning signal system... And fuck the attractant. Group 1, hurry up and deal with that thing!"

Before he had even finished speaking, a roar that pierced directly through the Abyss Zone and the Material Layer thundered over once again, clearly triggering another wave of chaos.

Assistant B smacked his forehead. "That monkey must be in heat..."

"It's an ape-like creature, because we haven't seen a tail."

Assistant A clearly had a stronger foundation in biology, and one particular word in his statement stirred Woolf's mind once more.

He stopped abruptly and turned to stare at Assistant A. "Say that again. The part before that!"

"Uh, I said we haven't seen a tail..."

"Before that?"

"Ape-like creature?"

The simple phrase was like a bolt of lightning splitting through Woolf's mind, linking the rumors buried deep in his memories with the current situation. "Ape-like creature, the New Plane... an ape-like creature from the New Plane!"

"What?" The topic had shifted too abruptly for the two assistants
