Ronan had probably seen this name, or something similar, in a database on Extraterritorial Species, but he had no room left to recall it, much less make any further response.
His energy had already been squandered sustaining and analyzing the evolution of advanced rules. What little remained had been spent dealing with Shadow Louse's earlier killing move that sliced through the void.
He had indeed blocked the first wave of calamity. The dozens of Segmenters now reduced to scrap on the ground had taken the hit in place of Ronan, Shang Min Lieutenant, and Shiyuan Baronet.

Ronan watched helplessly as Shadow Louse's "true body" emerged in the void, like an unfurling demonic shadow, ready to swallow the Freeze-Life device and outer cabin at the critical moment of transfer, along with the three people involved, in a single bite.
