Before writing this, I went back and looked over my afterword for Volume Four.
Last time, I said Volume Five would be fairly short and I could finish it by the end of July.
Instead, I kept writing until September 12.
A whole month and a half longer.
I couldn't help pondering: where had things gone wrong?
Oh!
I've got it.
I made a major revision to the chapter outline midway through Volume Five.
I, Bing Huo, haven't been writing novels for long, so I genuinely didn't know.

I read through it myself and found that the earlier part was fine, but the fights got a little too frequent toward the end.
So much fighting, it got numbing!
For a novel that's half base-building, having too much description of fighting is a flaw.
It's like eating meat nonstop until you throw up.
You need some vegetables, a sip of booze, and then a pig's trotter to tear into and gnaw on-that's the right balance.
