Truly arrogant.
You come here just to pick a fight with the teacher?
That thought flashed through Wu Tianming and Wang Ye's minds, and they instinctively sensed trouble.
If they offended Ke Zhan, how would they survive at this school from now on?
"Luo Yao, why go to the library? Let's grab some food. You don't know this, but the white-cut chicken here is amazing. Come on, big bro will take you." Wang Ye walked up to Luo Yao, his hand naturally reaching out to drape over his shoulder.
Luo Yao casually sidestepped left, dodging Wang Ye's hand. He shook his head and said, "I'm not hungry. I'm going to the library. You two go eat." With that, Luo Yao walked off.
"What do we do? Food can't even tempt this kid. He's dead set on going against Ke Zhan!"
"You think everyone's like you, always thinking about eating? A real top student like him isn't the same as you."
"Third Young Master! Why are you attacking me personally? Just a couple days ago, you said eating was my blessing, and now that the top student is here, you're abandoning me?"
Wu Tianming got goosebumps from Wang Ye's words. "Get lost, get lost. Cut that act. We need to follow him and see. If something happens to this kid, we'll be the ones taking the fall."
"Sigh, why do I feel like a babysitter?" Wang Ye couldn't argue with Wu Tianming, so he had no choice but to follow him to the library.
"Aren't you always bragging about being street-smart? How can you not see this? If it weren't for us needing to look after Luo Yao, why would the original dorm mates have been suddenly transferred?"
"Have you ever seen a six-person dorm with only three people living in it?" Wu Tianming saw Wang Ye still hadn't caught on and took the chance to remind him.
Wang Ye stared at him in shock. "Holy crap! So we're riding on Luo Yao's coattails?"
"What else did you think? Remember that Blondie from our dorm? He messaged me at noon saying he got reassigned to another major's dorm."
"Think about it. Normally, dorm assignments mix people from different departments within the same major, rarely mixing with other majors."
"Now our dorm has empty spots, but no one else can move in. What does that tell you?"
"It can't be because of you and me, right?"
Wu Tianming's analysis made Wang Ye's eyes light up with sudden understanding.
"And the school paid five hundred thousand to bring this guy in. Don't you get how important he is?"
"How did this hot potato end up in our hands?" Wang Ye grumbled as he walked.
"Don't complain yet. Luo Yao has a pure heart. If you make a friend like him, it'll benefit you in the long run."
Wang Ye was no fool. After Wu Tianming's reminder, he knew being friends with a genius was far better than being friends with ordinary people.
Especially a genius like Luo Yao, who only cared about studying.
But worry still showed on Wang Ye's face. He said, "Aren't you afraid he'll find some problem with Ke Zhan and offend him?"
Wu Tianming found Wang Ye's words a bit ridiculous. "No matter who Ke Zhan is, he's still a university professor. How could Luo Yao possibly find a problem with him?"
"Besides, Luo Yao is just going to look at Ke Zhan's paper. It's not like he's deliberately trying to pick a fight. And wasn't it Ke Zhan himself who asked us all to go read his paper?"
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go to the library!"
With that, Wang Ye picked up his pace, making Wu Tianming complain from behind, "I've never seen anyone so eager to latch onto someone."
Luo Yao didn't have a library card and was stopped at the entrance. After Wu Tianming and Wang Ye caught up, they first took Luo Yao to get one.
Once he had his library card, Luo Yao couldn't wait to enter the library.
"This place... is really big." Luo Yao wasn't picky about his environment, but even so, he was stunned when he saw the school's library.
"You call this big? You haven't seen the one in the capital... Hey, why'd you poke me?" Wang Ye was cut off mid-sentence by Wu Tianming's physical interruption.
"Think about where Luo Yao's from," Wu Tianming whispered.
A small town.
It would be lucky for a small town to even have a library, let alone one like the capital's.
Wang Ye suddenly understood and shut his mouth.
"Come on. Didn't you want to see the paper in the Semiconductor journal? Let's look it up on the computer here first."
Wu Tianming led Luo Yao to the library's computers and let him operate it himself.
Though Luo Yao had never used a library system before, to him, all systems followed the same underlying logic—one aimed at achieving computation, data processing, and user interaction.
Following that logic, Luo Yao quickly found the location of the Semiconductor journal he wanted.
The three went to the academic journal hall on the second floor. Luo Yao walked straight to row 11 in section F and pulled down a copy of the Semiconductor journal.
As soon as he sat down, Luo Yao quickly entered his zone, looking like he couldn't care less about the outside world.
There were about a dozen people scattered in the academic journal hall. Wu Tianming and Wang Ye couldn't just stand there, so they grabbed copies of Semiconductor and started reading too.
Luo Yao read extremely fast. By the time Wu Tianming and Wang Ye were only a third of the way through, he had already finished the entire journal.
"Teacher Ke's skill really is quite average."
Luo Yao commented after finishing.
"Luo Sand Soil, you shouldn't say that," Wang Ye said, his mind blank for a few seconds before quickly lowering his voice.
"Why shouldn't I say it? Isn't it the truth?"
"If a teacher's skill isn't up to par, can't I say so?"
"There are still errors in this paper. No, I have to go find him in person." Luo Yao said, getting up to go see Ke Zhan.
What the hell are you doing!
Talking behind his back is one thing, but now you want to confront him face-to-face?
Isn't that just embarrassing him?
"Luo Yao, you can't go! If you go now, it's like slapping the teacher right in the face," Wang Ye stopped Luo Yao.
Wu Tianming also quietly advised from the side, "Luo Yao, there's a good chance you're misreading this mistake. Think about it—the data in a paper has to come from repeated experiments. You've only been looking at it for less than half an hour; how could you easily spot a problem?"
"Even though I haven't done the related experiments, there really is an issue in his paper."
"I'm going to find him."
"Don't worry, this is how I did it back at school too. If a teacher made a mistake, I'd point it out, and they never said anything."
Wu Tianming leaned in close to Luo Yao and whispered, "Luo Yao, this is different from your situation before. When a university professor publishes a paper, it might not always be for academic reasons—it could be for a promotion or for the manuscript fee."
"For small mistakes, everyone just turns a blind eye. Ke Zhan is probably going to be our advisor for four years!"
"If you go now, you'll be the one who suffers."
"Why?"
"Since when does academia tolerate falsification?" Luo Yao didn't understand.
In his view, one was one, and two was two. If he had to compromise on that, then science wasn't worth his time.
"In that case, I'll do it a different way."
