Chapter 9: Lack of Emotional Intelligence? That's the Result of High-IQ Decision-Making! (Please Read, Please Favorite)
After the agreement was signed, Teacher Ouyang took the other recruitment teachers out to eat. He had originally wanted Luo Yao's family to join them, but Luo Yao declined.
Teacher Ouyang figured the family probably had things to discuss, so he didn't insist on taking them to dinner.
Li Hong, seeing the agreement was already signed, knew she had lost her chance. Taking advantage of the moment, she also slipped away.
Once the group of recruitment teachers had walked out of the small restaurant, Teacher Wu posed the classic question: "Where are we eating now?"
"Isn't there a place not far from here? Let's just eat there. I'll need to discuss the follow-up with Student Luo later anyway."
"Fine, fine. Since you're the one who signed the kid today!"
"Haha, teachers, eat and drink well this afternoon. This little brother is treating!" Teacher Ouyang had completed his task, and his heart was brimming with joy. He led the group of recruitment teachers to Wang's Stir-fry, just a few steps away from the Luo family home.
The owner of Wang's Stir-fry was Wang Ergou, who had a minor grudge with the Luo family. Seeing several men in suits walk over from the Luo house, he quickly invited them in and seated them.
"Gentlemen, did you find the place next door not to your taste? Don't worry, the flavors here can be adjusted to your needs. If you want spicy or sweet, we can do it." Wang Ergou poured tea while introducing.
The recruitment teachers present had seen it all. When they heard Wang Ergou say this, they exchanged glances.
This place and the Luo family home were both small restaurants. It seemed clear the owner had some sort of conflict with the Luo family.
"It's not that. We just didn't want to trouble them." Teacher Ouyang spoke truthfully, but that wasn't how Wang Ergou interpreted it.
"Oh my, what a kind guest you are, speaking up for them."
"Boss, you misunderstand. We're all here for the Luo family's son. Now that business is done, it wouldn't be right to impose on them for a meal."
All these people, for the Luo family's son?
What for?
Wang Ergou quickly asked about the situation. Upon learning that these teachers were all here to invite Luo Yao to university, Wang Ergou felt a bitter taste in his mouth.
"Why does he get to go to university! I remember he's only in high school, isn't he?"
"Isn't this against the rules?" Wang Ergou had no idea what "independent recruitment" meant. He only knew that to go to university, you had to take the college entrance exam.
Getting into university without taking the exam was definitely pulling strings!
"Hey! What are you saying! What against the rules!" The recruitment teacher from Jiang University was already a bit annoyed from failing to recruit anyone today. Being accused of breaking rules by a small restaurant owner made him flare up.
"I... I heard you have to take the college entrance exam to go to university!" Wang Ergou's momentum instantly weakened as the other man's voice rose sharply.
"Boss, it's not your fault for not knowing. This probably hasn't happened in this small town before!"
"This is independent recruitment. It means universities can select outstanding students in advance to study at their schools."
"Of course, these students aren't chosen randomly. They need to have won awards in national competitions."
Wang Ergou had never heard of this. He said blankly, "Did that Luo kid win a national competition award?"
"That's right. And not just one. Otherwise, why would we have come all the way from the capital, Zhe City, Jiang City, and other places?"
Hearing Teacher Ouyang say they had come from so far away, Wang Ergou found it even more unbelievable.
"You came all this way for a kid? Why?" Wang Ergou asked incredulously.
"Because he's a rare genius, big brother. You should know the education level in this town, right?"
"Under those circumstances, Luo Yao beat out a bunch of high-achieving students who were propped up by money to win first prize in the National Competition. And he did it in math, physics, and chemistry. Think about it—how could the country allow someone like that to waste his life away in this small town?"
Wang Ergou's face darkened. He had originally thought Luo Yao was just a bit smarter than his own son. But now, someone was telling him that Luo Yao had surpassed all other students in the country to win first prize in the National Competition!
"So... he's going to the big city to study?" Wang Ergou stared at Teacher Ouyang in disbelief, wanting to confirm the answer.
"That's right. Luo Yao will receive the best education in the big city from now on."
Hearing this, Wang Ergou panicked. He grabbed Teacher Ouyang's sleeve and asked, "Teacher, my kid is about to take the college entrance exam too. Can you take him along as well?"
Teacher Ouyang glanced at Teacher Xu, who was snickering nearby, and said to Wang Ergou, "Big brother, that's the recruitment teacher from Yan University over there. Why don't you ask him?"
Upon hearing that a recruitment teacher from Yan University was also there, Wang Ergou immediately let go of Teacher Ouyang and latched onto Teacher Xu.
Teacher Xu silently cursed Ouyang while patiently explaining to Wang Ergou, "Big brother, our independent recruitment only accepts students who have won first prize in the National Competition. Has your child won any awards?"
"Uh, do school-organized competitions count?"
"No."
Seeing Wang Ergou's dejected look, Teacher Xu felt a bit sorry for him and offered a few words of comfort: "Big brother, every child has their own path. You don't have to force it. What your son is good at, others might not be good at, right! What your son has, others might not have. So there's no need to compare."
Teacher Xu didn't expect his words to open a new train of thought for Wang Ergou.
"That's right! My business is better than the Luo family's, and I'm richer than them! Even if my son can't get into university in the future, I can take care of him for life!"
"Unlike the Luo family, dirt poor! They even had to borrow money to open their restaurant!" Wang Ergou was a rough man, and he quickly regained his confidence.
In his eyes, aside from Luo Yao, the Luo family had nothing to show for themselves!
The recruitment teachers exchanged glances, knowing this conversation was over. They abandoned their meal, got up, and left Wang's Stir-fry, leaving Wang Ergou alone, cursing and grumbling.
After they walked out of the shop, Teacher Xu pulled Teacher Ouyang aside.
"The Luo family should move sooner rather than later. If they can go today, they should go today. Otherwise, who knows what might happen."
Teacher Ouyang smiled bitterly. "You noticed it too?"
"Isn't that obvious? Jealousy twists a person, and Luo Yao is the hope of the Luo family—how easy would it be to ruin a kid like that!"
"With the way Luo Yao talks, he's probably offended plenty of people. News of his early university admission will spread fast."
"In a small town, even a tiny matter gets blown out of proportion, let alone something this big. People who don't understand, like that boss just now, will think Luo Yao got into university through connections. How is his family supposed to face those rumors?"
"So no matter what, the sooner he leaves, the better."
After hearing Teacher Xu's analysis, Teacher Ouyang nodded in agreement and said, "That's what I think too. If everyone's not busy today, could you lend a hand?"
"Help me move Luo Yao's family!"
The admissions teachers walked over to him, laughing. "You owe us another meal for this!"
"Next time, I'm picking the most expensive restaurant in your area!"
"We haven't eaten yet today—how about settling that first? Moving is hard work!"
Seeing everyone willing to help, Teacher Ouyang felt a surge of gratitude.
They wandered over to a food stall eight hundred meters away, wolfed down some snacks, and then split up to take action.
Some went to rent a car, others to buy plane tickets, and a few returned to Luo Yao's home to talk things over with the family.
"What? We have to leave today? That urgent?" Sun Xiulan was still slowly packing things in the room when she heard Teacher Ouyang say they'd be leaving with them today, and she was taken aback.
"That's how the school arranged it—they mainly want Luo Yao to report early," Teacher Ouyang said with a white lie.
"I see. Well, alright, I'll pack up right away. Luckily we don't have much stuff." Sun Xiulan quickly directed Luo Xingguo to tidy up the living room.
After Sun Xiulan left, Luo Yao, who had been listening without a word, suddenly walked over to Teacher Ouyang and said, "The reason you're making us move immediately—is it because of the Wang Family?"
Teacher Ouyang's heart skipped a beat. He thought, This kid really is a freak—how does nothing get past him?
"You didn't mention this when we signed the agreement earlier, but after we went to eat, you suddenly made this decision. So something must have happened during the meal."
"Still, it's for the best. We were never in the same circle anyway—we'd have left sooner or later." After saying this, Luo Yao walked away, leaving Teacher Ouyang standing there dumbfounded.
This kid—so that's why he didn't bother engaging with them!
He knew he'd leave this town eventually, so he thought the Wang Family's existence didn't matter!
Teacher Ouyang had heard that people with high IQs, when weighing pros and cons, could often consider problems more comprehensively, deeply analyze all possible outcomes and impacts, and thus make decisions more beneficial to themselves.
Right now, Teacher Ouyang felt he was witnessing a living example.
Low emotional intelligence? That's just the result of a high-IQ person's decision-making!
