A Slaughterhouse Like Hell
Halfway up Black Mountain lay a strategically vital spot.
The choke point leading inward was not only sealed off by rows upon rows of wooden stakes; watchtowers stood at intervals along the way, giving it quite the air of a military base.
As Jun Changxiao walked down the narrow passage, he had no mood to observe his surroundings. He thought to himself, I killed someone.
Yes.
He had killed someone—two people, in fact.
Having crossed over to Starfall Continent and become a Martial Cultivator, this was something he would have to face sooner or later.
"Strange."
Jun Changxiao said in confusion, "When I chopped off Elder Wei's arm on the Grudge Stage, the sight of blood nearly made me throw up. Why did I have no reaction the first time I killed someone?"
He had killed two bandits with one sword each, yet his state of mind had remained steady from beginning to end.
The system explained, "Because the host has already adapted to his new identity and gained sufficient understanding of the law of the jungle on Starfall Continent, he was able to remain unruffled in the face of events."
"Oh."
Jun Changxiao understood.
Casting aside his stray thoughts, he began examining the surroundings. This place is surrounded by mountains on three sides, and the only entrance is sealed layer upon layer. It would be very difficult to take it down.
Indeed.
The authorities and various sects had suffered greatly here.
"Move!"
A bandit ahead urged him coldly. Behind him, dozens of bandits followed with sabers and spears in hand, every one of them glaring furiously at Jun Changxiao.
Their two companions had been killed. They had wanted to swarm him and chop this fellow into mincemeat, but the Great Chieftain had ordered them to bring him into the stockade, so they could only force the thought down.
"Third Brother, what's the Great Chieftain thinking? Why didn't he let the brothers attack? Why let him into the mountain?"
"This guy is the Iron Bone Sect's sect master. The Great Chieftain is probably taking his status in the martial world into account, which is why he didn't let us make a move."
"Pah! Trash like him, a sect master?"
"I've roamed Qingyang County for so long, but I've never seen a sect boss who was some brat not even fully grown."
As the bandits talked, the subject turned to Jun Changxiao's identity as sect master. They all agreed that he was far too green to be the leader of a sect.
"Ah."
Sect Master Jun sighed.
At that moment, he dearly wished he could carve the four words 'I am the sect master' into his forehead to prove beyond all doubt that he truly was the Iron Bone Sect's leader!
"Brothers, do you think this guy might be an impostor?"
"If he dares impersonate one, once the Great Chieftain exposes him, he'll definitely wish he were dead."
"Hehe, I rather hope he is an impostor. Then we can enjoy the Great Chieftain's methods of torturing people once again!"
Escorted by dozens of bandits, Jun Changxiao passed through layer after layer of guards and stopped before a large gate pieced together from wood. The three words 'Black Wind Stockade' were carved upon it.
Tsk, tsk.
The bandits had actually claimed a mountain and built themselves a stockade.
"Open the gate!"
Creak!
The two broad wooden doors slowly opened. The leading bandit said blandly, "Kid, follow me inside."
Jun Changxiao stepped into the stockade.
The inside of Black Wind Stockade was larger than the Iron Bone Sect, with many crude wooden houses built along both sides.
Smack!
Smack!
The moment Jun Changxiao entered, he heard the sound of whips lashing.
In an open area ahead stood five wooden stakes, each binding a raggedly dressed person. Their hair was disheveled, their bodies covered in blood, and distinct whip marks showed through their torn clothing.
A bare-chested, muscular bandit swung his whip hard at one of them. Only the crack of the whip could be heard; there was no scream.
Jun Changxiao's brows furrowed slightly.
He knew that the person being whipped did not scream because he was already at death's door.
"Save... save me..." A weak groan suddenly reached his ears.
Jun Changxiao lowered his head. A man was slowly crawling across the ground, both legs already severed, leaving two long trails of blood behind him. His face was twisted in agony and weak beyond measure. His eyes held fear, despair, and pain, as though he knew he was about to die, yet still hoped to live.
Splurt!
A broadsword fell, and a head rolled away.
The bandit raised his broadsword and kicked the head into a brazier filled with charcoal ash, cursing, "No legs, yet you fucking run around everywhere."
"Brother Niu, that guy was going to die sooner or later anyway. Why not let him die a little more painfully?"
"If you ask me, Brother Niu is just too soft-hearted. He wanted to let him go quickly."
The bandits nearby teased him.
"Soft-hearted, my ass!"
The bandit called Brother Niu cursed, "This bastard dirtied the ground. Won't I be the one who has to clean it up?"
"Makes sense, makes sense."
The crowd burst into laughter.
Jun Changxiao's brows drew together even tighter. He could not catch the slightest trace of pity in these bandits' eyes. All he saw was cold-blooded brutality.
"Hm?"
Brother Niu sheathed his saber and looked over.
The other bandits also jumped down from the platform, staring at Jun Changxiao with mocking looks.
Crack! One bandit raised a hand, made a throat-slitting gesture, and let out a strange sound before grinning sinisterly.
The other bandits scattered throughout the stockade noticed a stranger entering and cast cold, gloomy looks his way.
For a moment.
Several hundred bandits in the stockade were all staring at Jun Changxiao.
Smack! Smack! Smack!
The whip-wielding bandit lashed out viciously several more times, grabbed the hair of the person tied to the stake, and cursed, "Fuck, dead again. Couldn't even take a beating."
Jun Changxiao said nothing and walked straight ahead.
After only a few dozen steps, he saw one person after another either hanging from something or suspended in midair. Every one of them had their head lowered; presumably, they had long since stopped breathing.
"Damn it."
The crowd burst into laughter.
As Jun Changxiao passed them, his gaze gradually turned cold.
This was not a mountain stockade, nor was it a bandit den. It was a slaughterhouse that existed like hell itself. The bandits here were no longer human—they were a pack of brutal, bloodthirsty beasts.
Jun Changxiao did not want to be a good person.
But as he saw corpses tortured and whipped to death along the way, saw bones piled together in heaps, an unnamed fury surged up within him.
If witnessing this stockade that resembled a slaughterhouse had merely made Jun Changxiao angry,
then when he saw the head that had been kicked into the brazier earlier, saw the despair, fear, and helplessness in its eyes before death, only one thought rose in his heart—kill them all!
