Grandmaster-Level Commentary, Part One
Bibi Dong saw Ye Wen off. Neither of them said much.
Still, Bibi Dong admitted that she had been drawn to the unique aura Ye Wen gave off. But the two of them could hardly be called familiar. Today was their first meeting, and as a girl, she was ultimately too reserved to say it aloud.
As they were about to leave Spirit Hall's grounds, Bibi Dong's lovestruck mind began to spiral.
"What should I do? Should I ask him for an address first?
Would he think I'm a frivolous girl if I did?
Ah, this is so annoying. What exactly is this feeling?"
Ye Wen, on the other hand, did not think that much about it. He glanced at the exquisite and beautiful girl beside him and recalled her tragic fate in the original story.
In the end, he could not bear it and said to Bibi Dong,
"Saintess, although I don't think these words should come from me, you should keep your distance from the two great empires and the Three Upper Sects.
"Especially when it comes to feelings. Otherwise, it will benefit neither you nor anyone else, because you are Spirit Hall's Saintess. That is all I have to say. I hope Saintess Bibi Dong finds happiness. Goodbye."
Bibi Dong was stunned at first. By the time she came back to her senses, Ye Wen was already nowhere to be seen, and she could not help feeling annoyed.
"What kind of person is he?! Of course I know I'm Spirit Hall's Saintess." With that, she stomped off in a huff.
Clearly, Bibi Dong had not yet realized the severity of the situation. Ye Wen watched quietly from afar for a while before leaving as well.
There was a saying that was not wrong: men really were all lecherous pigs. After all, any man would take a few extra looks at a beautiful woman.
When watching historical dramas, how many men had never entertained the thought of having three wives and four concubines?
Although Ye Wen already had Ah Yin and possessed some resistance to feminine beauty, he still liked beautiful women in the end. A peerless beauty like Bibi Dong was indeed pleasing to the eye.
But more often than not, Ye Wen was a rational man. The karmic entanglements surrounding Bibi Dong were far too great.
Not only was she Spirit Hall's Saintess, her innate talent was also at the pinnacle level, scarcely inferior to Ye Wen's own. In the future, when she went to the City of Slaughter, even if she might avoid being defiled as in the original story thanks to his warning, she would still very likely catch the eye of the lofty Rakshasa God.
The Rakshasa God—those who knew, knew. An evil god, after all~
Under the premise that faith could create gods, what kind of twisted world could possibly give birth to such a deity? Ye Wen thought with a shiver.
Meanwhile, in the Pontiff's Palace, Qian Xunji was listening to a subordinate report the words Ye Wen had said to Bibi Dong when he left.
Having weathered countless romantic affairs, how could he fail to understand the meaning behind his disciple's gaze in the hall? Seeing that Ye Wen was so tactful and had even warned Bibi Dong not to lead herself astray, he nodded in satisfaction.
Although Ye Wen's papers were indeed outstanding, in such an extraordinary world, martial strength came first. Bibi Dong's unparalleled talent was something Qian Xunji had cultivated to guard the Pontiff's Palace. If the two great empires or the Three Upper Sects truly dared set their sights on Bibi Dong, Qian Xunji would not mind showing them the color of blood.
The streets remained as lively as ever, but many high-level Soul Masters lurking in the shadows had set their eyes on Ye Wen as he emerged from Spirit Hall.
Ye Wen was well aware of this, yet he pretended not to notice and returned to the hotel on his own.
Without hesitation, he leaked the contents of his conversation with the Pontiff in the Pontiff's Palace. For a time, undercurrents surged.
Gradually, more and more Soul Masters came to greet and speak with Ye Wen. For his own safety, he did not dare arouse the curiosity of these major powers too much.
So, he began selling the three papers he had already copied.
They were not expensive—one gold coin per copy. To those high-level Soul Masters, that was not even a drop in the bucket. The production cost was only a few copper soul coins, but if he set the price too low, it would feel somewhat insulting.
When those powers that had been watching saw Ye Wen selling these bound papers without hesitation, they hurried forward to buy them and send them back to their masters. Some Soul Masters even bought several extra copies, looking as if money were no object.
The smaller factions that had hidden themselves more deeply saw that Spirit Hall's people had not come to stop him, so they believed Ye Wen's earlier words and stepped forward to purchase copies from him as well.
Unfortunately, Ye Wen had only brought three hundred copies, and they quickly sold out.
There were not many fools among Soul Masters who had cultivated to the highest levels. After reading Ye Wen's three theories, they all realized his value. Once they learned his ultimate goal, they relaxed somewhat. At the very least, there would not be another faction on the continent competing with them for benefits.
They also began considering that if Ye Wen's Advanced Academy truly opened, they would not mind sending talented disciples from their clans there to study. After all, even Su Qiaoqiao, the weakest of Ye Wen's eight disciples, had the optimal Soul Ring configuration.
The Huo Siblings, his eldest disciples, possessed even more astonishing talent. They had absorbed Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Rings as their Fourth Soul Rings. Judging by their performance in the Soul Fighting Arena, none of them were weaklings, which was enough to show how exceptional Ye Wen's teaching was. Although Ye Wen himself was only a four-ring Soul Ancestor, the talent of the Huo Family Siblings was beyond doubt. They would certainly become Soul Douluo in the future, and even becoming Titled Douluo was not beyond imagination.
Three days later, the All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Tournament officially began. Watching young Soul Masters around his own age release Soul Skills and battle one another in the arena, Ye Wen felt deeply moved.
"Soul Masters aren't just about fighting and killing."
Because of the influence of his papers, Ye Wen had been specially arranged by the Pontiff to sit beside a group of Spirit Hall bishops.
Every one of these bishops was a renowned powerhouse in their respective cities, and even the weakest possessed the cultivation of a Soul Emperor.
At first, they assumed Ye Wen was merely the relative of some elder. But after learning of the quality of his papers, their attitudes toward him became much warmer.
Especially after Ye Wen guided several bishops whose cultivation had long been stuck at the peak of Soul Emperor and who had been unable to break through to Soul Saint, they became even more enthusiastic toward him.
After all, there were plenty of combat-oriented Soul Masters in the Soul Master world, but truly erudite masters of Martial Soul theory were exceedingly rare.
After several Soul Emperor bishops broke through to Soul Saint thanks to Ye Wen's guidance, their enthusiasm for him reached its peak. This proved that Ye Wen's true knowledge was absolutely first-rate.
Many representatives of influential factions seated beside Qian Xunji watched the bishops' strength soar under Ye Wen's guidance, unable to hide the envy in their eyes.
Thunder Douluo Yu Yuanzhen watched Ye Wen chatting cheerfully in the distance, his gaze flickering uncertainly. Then he said to Qian Xunji,
"Your Holiness, I find this tournament commentator's level rather mediocre. Why not have Grandmaster Ye Wen explain the matches instead?"
Looking at the two academies on the field pecking at each other like helpless rookies, Qian Xunji, who had been on the verge of falling asleep, immediately became interested. However, his refined upbringing kept him from agreeing outright, and he said instead,
"After all, he is a guest. It would not be proper for me to force him. I'll have someone ask him first."
As he spoke, Qian Xunji cast a meaningful glance at the attendant beside him. The attendant withdrew and walked over to Ye Wen, speaking softly to him.
Ye Wen was dumbfounded for a moment. His plans for this trip could already be said to have been perfectly accomplished, yet he had not expected Qian Xunji to pull something like this.
But the other party was the Pontiff, while he was ostensibly only a mere four-ring Soul Ancestor. If he refused, it might damage Spirit Hall's dignity. It would be bad if someone decided to make things difficult for him later.
Better not make trouble for himself, so Ye Wen agreed.
When Ye Wen took the announcer's microphone and saw the announcer's despondent expression, he knew that Qian Xunji's arrangement might ruin the man's reputation in the industry. So, he comforted him.
"Sorry, brother. I didn't expect the Pontiff to pull something like this either. But if you lose your job in the future, you can apply to the Soul Master academy I'm founding."
Only then did the announcer's expression improve slightly. It was also then that Ye Wen realized this broadcasting device was actually a Tool Martial Soul.
"Emmm, another weird Martial Soul has appeared."
Looking at the two groups of rookies pecking at each other on the field, Ye Wen saw that one side was Thunder Academy, affiliated with the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, while the other was Exotic Beast Academy from the Star Luo Empire. Yet even so, the two sides remained evenly matched.
After all, not every Thunder Academy student could possess a Super Martial Soul like the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon. Meanwhile, this year's Exotic Beast Academy lineup was quite formidable. From what Ye Wen could see, they had at least four top-tier Martial Souls. No wonder neither side could do anything to the other, and they remained locked in a stalemate on the field.
After composing himself, Ye Wen began his commentary.
"Ladies and gentlemen, let us first look at Thunder Academy's contestants. The three Strength Attack System Soul Masters leading their team all possess pure-blooded Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Martial Souls.
"Even in the most remote places, any Soul Master should know of this Super Martial Soul renowned across the continent. But what most people do not know is that this Martial Soul has a special ability: before reaching Soul Saint, its users can already undergo a certain degree of Dragon Transformation, greatly enhancing their combat power. This is why the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon is called a Super Martial Soul.
"Those interested can visit bookstores in a while and look for my book, Detailed Explanation of Martial Souls. It contains a detailed description of this Martial Soul, along with annotations for the Martial Souls in the Martial Soul atlas and cultivation analyses for certain Mutated Martial Souls."
The first half of his praise for the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Martial Soul made Thunder Douluo beam with pride, but the advertisement in the latter half made the gathered higher-ups unable to stop themselves from laughing.
Of course, Ye Wen could not earn even a single copper soul coin from those books.
After all, Douluo Continent did not have copyright protection laws, and Ye Wen only intended to use them to build his reputation.
Just like Yu Xiaogang's Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul from the original story—except Yu Xiaogang's theories were a joke.
Grandmaster? That's a pretty good title. It's mine now.
