Background / History

The Xiao Family is one of the three leading families of Wutan City, alongside the Jia Lie Family and Oba Family. The three powers historically maintained a precarious balance, while the Xiao and Jia Lie families were openly hostile and the Oba Family waited to exploit either side's weakness. 19

The family strongly values cultivation talent and public strength. Its younger generation is regularly assessed through Dou Qi tests, martial contests, and coming-of-age ceremonies; descendants who fail to meet the required cultivation standard risk being assigned to clan businesses rather than continuing on the cultivation path. 22 171 178

Before his rise, Xiao Bai was neglected by the family after remaining at Zero Stage Dou Qi for two years. He received only ten Gold Coins annually, enough to avoid the disgrace of a clan member starving, but was otherwise treated as beneath notice. 2

The family's elders and Clan Leader frequently compete for influence through their descendants. When Xiao Yan's cultivation regressed to Stage Three Dou Qi, the Great Elder and Third Elder pressured Xiao Zhan into allowing a contest for leadership of the younger generation. 9 10

Major Events

Contest for the younger generation's leadership

After Xiao Yan's loss of strength, Xiao Bai publicly argued that the family required a powerful leading figure among its youth to represent and guide them. His provocation caused the younger generation to arrange a martial contest for the position. 9

The contest injured numerous disciples and ultimately established Xiao Xun'er as the family's number one genius. Xiao Bai later used stored Energy Points to reach Stage Seven Dou Qi, placing his displayed cultivation on par with hers. 16

Xiao Bai's departure and return

After trading Mystic Seal to the elders, Xiao Bai rejected their offer to make his parents elders and increase his resources. He chose to leave Wutan City to explore the wider continent instead. 30 32

When he returned with Hai Bodong, the gate guards initially failed to recognize him. Xiao Bai also felt that Xiao Zhan and the family treated him as a distant guest rather than as one of their own, leading him to stay at the Mittel Auction House instead of the family estate. 135 141

The raid on the family estate

Hai Bodong later entered the Xiao Family estate while gathering resources from Wutan City's major powers. His presence drew hidden experts, including Ling Ying, Xiao Xun'er's guard, and convinced him that the family's “waters run deep.” 150 151

Xiao Bai subsequently used the family's back mountain and his parents' former burial site as a hiding place while avoiding danger. 153

Abduction of Xiao Zhan

Mysterious attackers struck the Xiao Family and abducted Clan Leader Xiao Zhan. Xiao Yan returned afterward and reorganized the family, then sought Xiao Bai's assistance in determining Xiao Zhan's whereabouts. 249 250 256

Protector Wu revealed that Xiao Zhan had been taken to the Central Continent for delivery to a Soul Hall master. 256

Ancient-clan legacy

Xiao Bai disclosed to Xiao Yan that the Xiao Family consists of the final surviving members of the Xiao Clan, one of the Eight Ancient Clans. He further stated that the clan's Dou Di Bloodline had vanished, explaining the family's current decline. 257 258
