After switching to a rifle, Zhang Heng's combat strength increased once more. With Level 3 marksmanship and the Filter Lens, as long as he held the fire escape, no one could fight their way up from there.
The militia organized two more assaults, but Zhang Heng drove them both back and added quite a few new casualties to their ranks. Through the window, however, he saw more military trucks heading this way along the distant streets. Compared with the first group, the second group was surely better prepared. Besides that, a helicopter was also flying over, apparently intending to seize the rooftop and attack downward from there.
Zhang Heng roughly estimated that the second group would arrive in three minutes.
He then checked the mission panel again. This time, the mission had finally abandoned its minimalist approach. Not only was there a countdown, but Loki's remaining number of avatars was displayed as well. It was still 5/5, meaning the doctor's group had yet to finish their battle.
Zhang Heng frowned, put away his rifle, and returned to Shcherbina's door. He knocked, and Kratos's wary voice came from within. "Who is it?"
"It's me," Zhang Heng replied.
"Wait a moment."
About ten seconds after Kratos spoke, the door opened again, and Zhang Heng entered. Shcherbina's corpse was still facedown on the floor, the blood beneath him long since congealed. This time, though, the buzzing flies around him were gone.
The doctor and the others had achieved significant results. In a short time, they had dealt with nearly every visible fly in the room, but Loki's avatar was not among them.
