Zhang Heng and the Masked Sniper lying on the ground were both very patient.
As hunters went, the latter was undoubtedly superior. Zhang Heng had once read in historical records that many Finnish guerrillas in the Winter War had been hunters. They had hunted in these forests since childhood, and when their prey changed from wild beasts to Soviet soldiers, they remained just as formidable.
Unfortunately, this was not a fair game.
When that crow in the darkness appeared again, it would all be over.
Zhang Heng placed his finger on the trigger and made his final preparations, but the Masked Sniper suddenly rolled sideways without any warning.
Zhang Heng froze. Unable to hear anything, he briefly thought he had been discovered.
But then he saw bullets pouring into the snow.
The Masked Sniper reacted quickly. That roll had evaded the first volley, and he immediately swung his gun around and pulled the trigger.
This exposed another flaw of Shadow State. Since sunlight slanted in from one direction, Zhang Heng's shadow was fixed in one direction as well. Although he could observe his surroundings by imprinting himself on a tree, he could only see one side. Even if he turned his body, all he saw was the bark on the other side.
Thus, he could only roughly guess from what was happening before him that the earlier gunfire had drawn nearby Soviet soldiers over. But he had no idea how many there were or how far away they were.
To make matters worse, his Shadow State was about to run out. He had less than ten seconds left.
Zhang Heng could not spare any attention for killing the Masked Sniper for the moment. He first had to make sure he would not get sandwiched between
