A Little Closer
Aside from scouting locations, Zhang Heng had spent most of his daytime trying to assemble the CT Scanner. His efforts had not been in vain. Once they reached the morgue, it took him around twenty minutes to successfully obtain the CT Scanner he needed.
The scanning itself was not complicated either. Even an amateur cramming at the last minute like Zhang Heng could easily complete it after downloading the manual online and following its instructions.
However, what he obtained were only raw images. The next step, processing and analysis, required someone with relevant professional expertise. Zhang Heng pushed the CT Scanner aside and quietly waited for Infinite Blocks to run out.
Bai Qing looked at her mother. Her eyes were closed, and she looked as if she were asleep. The terror on her face had vanished, leaving only serenity.
Another forty-five minutes passed. Zhang Heng checked the time on his phone, then efficiently dismantled the scanner, which had reverted to Lego, and put it back into his backpack. He said to Bai Qing, "We need to leave."
"Let me look at her one more time. Just one more look," Bai Qing said.
Zhang Heng did not urge her again. He stood quietly to one side.
Half a minute later, Bai Qing personally pulled up the zipper on the body bag. She and Zhang Heng returned the body to the freezer, then she suppressed the grief in her heart and asked, "What do we do next?"
Zhang Heng looked at Bai Qing's slightly red, swollen eyes and shook his head. "There's nothing else for now. Go back and get some sleep. I'll send these materials to a friend at a hospital. I'll contact you again once the results are in."
