Balance Between Attributes
At night, lying on the small bed in his room, Ye Chen found his eyes strangely uncomfortable.
He tried to raise a hand to rub them, only to discover that his body felt as though it had been filled with lead. His arms could not move in the slightest.
What's wrong with me? Don't tell me I'm going blind?! Ye Chen complained weakly in his heart, but nothing changed.
I just awakened my Soul Power and gained Twin Martial Souls. If I go blind, how am I supposed to look at all those long-legged beauties?!
I'm such a handsome and dashing guy. If I turn blind, wouldn't that be a huge loss for all the girls in the world?
What a waste of heaven's gifts!
At that moment, Ye Chen felt utterly miserable. He wanted to shout at the top of his lungs, yet he could not make a sound.
Even at a time like this, Ye Chen was still thinking about long-legged beauties.
Just like that, amid unbearable torment, Ye Chen gradually fell asleep. Unnoticed by him, his Twin Pupils also underwent a slight change.
"Xiao Chen, why are you still asleep? Get up and eat breakfast."
When the first rays of morning sunlight fell across the window, Xian Lin'er came to Ye Chen's door to wake him. Her voice was incomparably gentle.
"Okay."
"Ah?!"
Ye Chen answered groggily at first, but suddenly realized something and cried out in surprise.
He found that his body could move again. Opening his eyes, he saw that the sunlight was still brilliant and the world was still beautiful.
It was as though everything that had happened yesterday had been nothing more than a dream.
Running to the bathroom mirror, Ye Chen carefully examined his eyes. They seemed no different from before.
The only thing that felt slightly off was that he felt completely refreshed, and his mind seemed clearer than before.
"Phew!"
Ye Chen let out a long breath, and the weight in his heart finally lifted.
At the very least, he had not gone blind.
"Xiao Chen, why aren't you out yet? I warmed up some Beast Milk for you!" Since Ye Chen liked to lock his bedroom door while sleeping, Xian Lin'er could only urge him from outside.
"I'm coming!"
Ye Chen replied, suppressing the countless thoughts in his mind as he happily ran out.
For him, there was nothing happier than waking up in the morning and drinking a cup of warm Beast Milk.
Over the following days, Ye Chen went to Sea God's Pavilion every day to study under Mu En for three hours.
Mu En did not teach him anything overly profound. He merely explained some basic knowledge while also observing the energy within Ye Chen's body.
Amazingly, even without deliberately cultivating, those four types of energy naturally formed a beneficial cycle.
It bore a striking resemblance to the complementary yin-yang Soul Core in Mu En's understanding. Even he had never found a way to make two kinds of energy transform into one another.
Thus, he had kept Ye Chen from immediately obtaining his first soul ring, worried that the energy of a soul ring would disrupt this balance and cause Ye Chen irreversible harm.
This situation continued for two months.
After two months of constant observation with Spiritual Power, during which he also had Ye Chen consume some heavenly treasures suited to corresponding attributes to carefully test things out, Mu En finally reached a conclusion.
Because the cycle contained four types of attribute energy, even if one or two attributes increased slightly, the principles of mutually generating attributes would fill that small gap. The balance would not immediately be broken.
In theory, Ye Chen could obtain soul rings.
However, there was also a critical limit to the difference in Soul Power between the two Martial Souls.
In other words, before Ye Chen obtained his third ring, he could add soul rings to only one Martial Soul. But if his primary Martial Soul wanted to obtain its fourth soul ring and become a Soul Ancestor, he would have to add a soul ring to his Second Martial Soul as well, in order to maintain the balance of the four ultimate attributes within his body.
As his cultivation rose, the age limit of the soul rings he could endure would also increase. Therefore, if he wanted to add a fifth soul ring to his primary Martial Soul, his Second Martial Soul would need to possess three soul rings.
The same principle would apply afterward.
With this conclusion, Mu En felt much more at ease, though he still found it somewhat regrettable.
He had originally wanted Ye Chen to cultivate one Martial Soul first, then wait until he had reached at least Rank 70 before considering adding soul rings to the Second Martial Soul. But Ye Chen's situation clearly did not allow that.
It seemed that he could only cultivate both Martial Souls at the same time.
"Xiao Chen, go back for now. Come to Sea God's Pavilion tomorrow. It's time to get your first soul ring," Mu En said kindly after today's lesson ended.
"Then I'll head back first. Grandpa Mu, you should get some rest early too," Ye Chen said politely as he stood up. His small body bowed to Mu En before he left the room.
At that moment, he was even more excited than when he had just undergone Martial Soul Awakening.
What use were two top-tier Martial Souls if he could not cultivate them?
Now that he could obtain his first soul ring and become a true soul master, he could hardly wait to tell everyone that the days when he would roam the continent freely were finally about to begin!
Ye Chen knew Mu En's strength very well, but this elderly man in the twilight of his years gave him the feeling that he was nearing the end of his life.
Ye Chen knew that a few years later, Mu En would pass away early because of an attack by Evil Soul Masters.
When Ye Chen had read that part in his previous life, he had still felt a sense of sorrow. Since he had come to this world, he absolutely could not allow such a thing to happen.
To do that, he first had to improve his own strength.
After Ye Chen left, Mu En's Spiritual Power followed him. Watching the boy skip along, a smile appeared on his aged face.
Not long afterward, his gaze turned toward the direction of the Sun Moon Empire, and he fell into thought.
"Ahhhhhh!"
The next day, in the skies between Shrek City and Star Dou Forest, an earthen-yellow figure sped through the air while a childish scream echoed overhead.
Some merchant caravans traveling toward Shrek City along the main road heard the sound and looked up, but they found nothing. In the end, they concluded that they had imagined it.
The one screaming was Ye Chen.
He was currently tucked under Xuan Zi's arm as they flew rapidly toward Star Dou Forest.
Since both Xian Lin'er and Qian Duoduo had teaching duties, Mu En arranged for Xuan Zi to take Ye Chen to obtain his first soul ring. That was how this scene came about.
"Why are you screaming like a ghost, little brat? Is it really that scary?" Xuan Zi curled his lips in the air. He had already protected little Ye Chen with a Soul Power barrier, yet the boy had screamed the entire way.
Ye Chen rolled his gem-like eyes at Xuan Zi. You're a Rank 98 Super Douluo, so of course you aren't afraid. But I'm still a powerless child!
Ye Chen could not help suspecting that Xuan Zi was taking revenge for personal reasons.
He had stolen quite a few of Xuan Zi's chicken legs before. That old bastard must have held a grudge over it!
