"It's fine. My job is pretty safe. This time, I didn't even run into any battles where I had to risk my life."
As with every departure, once the Rebirth Society entered its vacation and adjustment period, preparations for the next journey began.
Before that, though, came everyone's "time to go home."
Lu PingAn also went "home" for a visit, having a meal and chatting with his family.
He was not lying. Though this had still been a fight to the death, compared to the life-or-death struggles in other realms and the constant helplessness of being in a foreign land, conflicts on Earth truly counted as "safe and comfortable."
During journeys through other realms, the most agonizing thing was not encountering powerful enemies, but never knowing what you would run into—or whether you might meet a demigod tomorrow and simply be done for. Reality was not a game. Or rather, it made perfect sense for a Demon King to show up in a beginner village and crush the seedlings. No matter how thoroughly prepared you were, sometimes once you encountered something, all you could do was wait to die.
In such an environment, choices mattered more than effort, and luck mattered more than choices. Most Explorers feared tomorrow and felt powerless before it. Many teams fell apart on their own before the disaster of total annihilation ever arrived. For them to have made it this far, Lu PingAn's nerves of steel had truly been indispensable.
Of course, more importantly, the Courtyard still possessed an absolute advantage in safety and logistics.
Its supplies far surpassed the limits of other Professionals. When necessary, Lu PingAn's Plan Zero—run away—gave everyone their final source of confidence. Only with a sense of security could they more easily carry out all sorts of ordinary work.
