Hunting, or war, had become Lu Mouren's daily routine.
Since he was still alive—and doing quite well, at that—most of the time, he went from one victory to another. And since his opponents were likewise still alive, they too had basically grown accustomed to victory and glory.
But this time, most shard seekers would probably be disappointed.
"...Fall back."
Closing the Eye of Truth, Lu PingAn sighed and chose to "give up."
If he had not seen wrong, what was erupting ahead was a battle between a quasi-god and something suspected of being a "deity."
Getting involved in a battlefield of that level was no longer an adventure. It was simply suicide.
Choosing a strategic retreat right after making such grand vows was a little embarrassing, but it was still better than losing his life outright.
"Next one."
Three days later, Lu PingAn indirectly learned the result of that Contention War. It had exceeded his expectations.
"No one won."
Actually, there had been a winner. The winner was the shard.
That shard had attached itself to an Ancient Divine Beast that was continuously reviving. It was said to resemble an armored crab and was exceptionally ferocious. At the very least, the severely wounded quasi-god had proven exactly how formidable it was.
The only regrettable thing was that the shard was extremely powerful and was suspected to be the manifestation of the rule of "protection." The sight of that thing being impervious to blades and spears as it chased down a quasi-god and hacked at him had been far too spectacular, and the news had spread far and wide.
This also reminded Lu PingAn that although he had subdued his own shard relatively smoothly, if a shard's host was a powerful being suited to it, then it possessed the highest-level "authority"
