"You must work hard. The city leadership has high hopes for you. We can't afford to lose."
That display of "friendliness" left Lu PingAn utterly bewildered.
But on reflection, it was only natural. The entire Ancient City had likely entered a state of "overload." Either it successfully leveled up, or it crashed and burned completely.
This bid for provincial capital status had probably put a great many things on the line.
Development rights? The administrative privileges of each city? Or the right to develop worlds beyond the domain?
What does this have to do with me? Under normal circumstances, Lu PingAn might have bluntly fired back with that line, then ignored them outright.
"Alright. I'll work hard. I'll definitely show them Ancient City's style."
But this time, Lu PingAn was far more agreeable.
Why? Not long ago, Lu PingAn had been summoned to the government offices, and he had been rather annoyed about it.
"We're awarding you a medal. And a prize!"
Well then, Lu PingAn hurried right over.
For once, Lu PingAn tidied up his appearance. He got off his vehicle, even put in colored contacts, and greeted the officials' award ceremony with a smile.
The ceremony lasted an entire morning. Those receiving medals were all warriors who had performed outstandingly in the recent war. Lu PingAn's parents had been invited as well, so throughout the event, he acted like a proper human being. He did not float around, did not yawn, did not do anything weird. In short, the ceremony ended quite normally.
Once the medal ceremony was over, Lu PingAn hugged that "big box" and looked at everyone as though they were family.
"What should I pick?" Just like last time, Lu PingAn still intended to seek Big Cat's opinion.
