Chapter 7 Bitcoin (Seeking Recommendations, Seeking Favorites)
After sending Zhuang Xiaoting home, Fan Yu returned to his villa on Financial Street.
Fan Yu posted a job opening on a recruitment website.
He wanted to break into the internet industry, so he needed to recruit some talent first. As for whether he could find top talent through online recruitment, he'd just post it for now; he actually already had some ideas.
The best way to recruit talent would be to find a headhunting firm. Online recruitment was just something he was doing casually.
However, he also wanted to check out universities. Some graduating students were in a state of confusion about entering society after graduation. Although university students varied in quality, there were still some promising individuals. If he could discover them, they could become his cash cows in the future.
Before he knew it, it was almost midnight.
A new day was about to begin, and Fan Yu started looking through the Financial Street documents Liu Jian had sent him.
"Hmm? Bitcoin?"
Fan Yu exclaimed in surprise upon seeing a file in the documents labeled "Bitcoin."
Is this world just starting to get involved with Bitcoin?
In his previous life, when he was trading Bitcoin, he knew how crazy it was. It had created so many Forbes billionaires, though of course, it was the financial bigwigs pulling the strings behind the scenes. The interests involved were immense and shocked the world. Only a small portion was divided among others; the real big cake belonged to the powerful financial groups.
Even though some people had discovered the huge potential of Bitcoin, they didn't dare to delve deeper. The waters were too deep, especially with the manipulation by market makers later on, which was invisible and intangible, instilling a sense of fear.
But in this life, since he had discovered it, and he had the strength to play the game, why shouldn't he contend with those people?
He was feeling bored, and such an exciting thing appeared before him. How could he miss it?
In his previous life, the total supply of Bitcoin seemed to be around ten to twenty million coins. He didn't know how many there were in this world, but it didn't matter; he just needed to follow along.
Bitcoin hadn't fully emerged yet; there was only a slight ripple. Many outsiders might not even know what Bitcoin was.
Glancing at the time, Fan Yu didn't rush. Instead, he waited for the day's sign-in to arrive.
"Ding, today's sign-in has begun. Does the host wish to sign in?"
This was the moment he was waiting for. "Sign in."
"Ding, sign-in successful. The host has obtained a 25% stake in Air China."
Listening to the system's prompt in his mind, Fan Yu was stunned for a moment.
Air China shares?
Recently, he had also learned about some highly profitable companies in China, and Air China was among them.
Air China was a state-owned enterprise, but with the system, it wasn't surprising that he now controlled shares. Air China controlled all the profitable flights, and its assets were definitely enormous.
Roughly calculating, Air China's annual profit must be tens of billions, right?
However, Air China generally didn't have much private equity. Did the system clear out all the private shares and give them to him?
This sign-in reward was quite good; he was very satisfied.
After completing the sign-in, Fan Yu went back to bed and fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Fan Yu slowly woke up.
He had slept too late last night and woke up close to noon today.
He glanced at his phone and saw a missed call from Zhang Qian.
Zhang Qian was probably calling him about work.
He called Zhang Qian back, and indeed, it was about the company. Shengda's three million products from yesterday had been sold out again, and she wanted him to urge Shengda to deliver more.
He found Liu Jian's phone number and called him.
"Hello, boss."
As soon as the phone rang once, Liu Jian answered.
Fan Yu asked, "That file you sent me yesterday, what's the deal with this Bitcoin?"
"Bitcoin?"
"Boss, please wait a moment, I'll check."
After a short while, Liu Jian said, "It's like this, boss. My nephew told me about it. I compiled it and thought it might be valuable to you, so I included it in the file."
"Your nephew? What does he do for a living?"
Fan Yu asked curiously.
Logically speaking, Bitcoin wasn't attracting much attention in the early stages, right? Without a certain status, it would be difficult to get such inside information.
"Oh, boss, my nephew worked on Wall Street for three years and just returned to China recently. We had a family dinner yesterday, and he casually mentioned it to me."
Liu Jian breathed a sigh of relief. He thought the information about Bitcoin was useless and that giving it to the boss along with everything else might have displeased him.
Judging by Fan Yu's tone, that didn't seem to be the case.
"Alright, have your nephew come meet me. I have a few things I need to ask him."
Liu Jian quickly said, "Okay, I'll bring him to see you right away."
Just after finishing his morning routine, the doorbell rang.
When Fan Yu opened the door, he saw Liu Jian standing there with a thin, pale-faced teenager.
"Come in."
Fan Yu invited them inside.
Liu Jian seemed a bit reserved, but his nephew was more composed.
He seems like someone who's seen a bit of the world, Fan Yu thought.
After the three of them sat down, Fan Yu asked, "What would you like to drink? Coffee?"
Liu Jian quickly stood up and said, "Boss, don't trouble yourself. Where's the coffee machine? I'll make it."
"Go left, it's in the kitchen."
As Liu Jian left, Fan Yu looked at the teenager and asked, "How much do you know about Bitcoin?"
The teenager pondered for a moment. "I don't know much, but by the time I returned to China, Wall Street was already buzzing about Bitcoin. It seems to be some kind of virtual currency, but I don't know the specifics."
"Are you a trader?" Fan Yu continued to ask.
The teenager glanced at Fan Yu and nodded. "You could say that, but there's still a gap between me and those top traders on Wall Street."
"That's fine, as long as you can trade. I'm very interested in Bitcoin. Would you be interested in helping me?"
"You trust me?"
Entrusting someone with trading, especially something as volatile as this, isn't something most people would do without significant trust, as a single careless move could lead to ruin.
"The fact that I'm asking you to trade for me means I trust you. What do you have to worry about?"
Liu Tianfeng nodded. "Okay, when do we start?"
"No rush. Before we get into Bitcoin, help me buy some shares first."
Liu Tianfeng knew this was Fan Yu's way of testing him, to see if he truly had the skills.
"Just tell me, boss. I'll get it done."
"Shanghua Securities. It's a small company worth a few hundred million." Fan Yu said casually.
Liu Tianfeng jotted down the name, preparing to put on a good show.
Just then, Liu Jian came out with three cups of coffee.
"Boss, your coffee."
Fan Yu took a sip and nodded. "The strength is okay, just a bit too bitter."
"Okay, boss! I'll go make you another cup right away," Liu Jian said quickly.
Fan Yu shook his head. "Next time."
Liu Jian made a mental note that Fan Yu preferred sweet coffee and vowed not to make the same mistake again.
