Background / History

Dark Night entered Lin Manor as Lin Su's secret bodyguard under arrangements made through Ding Hai. She arrived in black clothing and a mask, delivered a letter of introduction, and immediately demonstrated movement so fast that Lin Su could not trace it. Her initial assignment also involved observing Lin Su's wine-making operation and reporting what she learned to her adoptive father. She resented the duty because it kept her from travelling the world and pursuing the Martial Way. 26

A prodigy since childhood, she opened the Yin Aperture by chance. The aperture accelerated her cultivation and earned her the standing of the “Dark Night King,” but it also left her with yin poison and black, snake-like scars across her face. She learned that reaching the Peeking Void Realm would trigger unavoidable Qi Deviation unless she found someone with the Yang Aperture. 47 48

Lin Su's opening of both the Yin and Yang Apertures gave her a solution that did not require her to seek one of the three men known to possess a Yang Aperture. Their growing trust became a romantic relationship, and the mutual nourishment of yin and yang gradually faded her facial scars. 48 67
