After all, according to the original course of history, the Soviet Union still had a few months before its collapse, and he had only intended to scoop up some talented people and rare materials.
But now that such an opportunity had presented itself, Murphy felt he could try making use of it.

Even the Americans at the time had judged that coups involving such powerful figures usually succeeded.
They had already taken control of Gorbachev, yet they did not dare take any substantive action against him. They also hesitated over Yeltsin and the other opposing leaders, missing the best opportunity to seize them. Even after their tanks rolled into Moscow, they sat there for more than two full days.
In the end, the soldiers were left
