"Merpeople?" Patrick looked at the photo Murphy handed him, glanced at the ugly corpse in it, and frowned. "So this thing was the killer?"
Several coastal cities in Great Britain had recently seen brutal murders. Muggles had been disemboweled, their deaths horribly gruesome, causing widespread panic across society. As president, Patrick naturally knew about it.
He had thought it was some vicious criminal, never expecting it to be a magical creature.
"The magic levels in these Merpeople are very low, so we can't keep them under constant surveillance. The Aurors only realized the Merpeople were attacking humans after they found that wizards had been killed. Once they investigated, they discovered that Muggles had been attacked as well."
"No wonder every crime scene smelled of fish and had so much water around it. They must have entered the cities through the sewers." Patrick said, "But don't these things lack legs?"
"Giving Merpeople a pair of legs isn't particularly difficult. That's where the story of the Little Mermaid came from," Murphy said. "However, their mutation may not have been caused by wizard magic, but by another kind of power."
"You mean..." Patrick looked at Murphy. Seeing him nod, he asked in confusion, "But why? What do they gain from this?"
"They're making their presence known," Murphy said. "They want more people to know that magic exists, thereby accelerating the recovery of magic."
Murphy spoke as he handed several more photographs to Patrick.

In the second photograph, clouds had formed a gigantic eye in the sky, looking down upon the earth.
In the third photograph, fish beneath the sea had formed a massive cross
