The two had just finished talking when the scout Captain Ent had sent out swiftly leaped down from a tree.
"Candidate Saintess, Captain Ent, among the elves who came to Falas Port, there is another Candidate Saintess."
The scout's words proved that Theresa had been right. The other party truly was another person acknowledged by the Holy Tree.
Captain Ent decided to take these people back to Falas Port.
"How could Falas Port have been destroyed so badly? Was there a war?"
Ellie looked at the city that resembled ruins, shock and worry showing on her face. Although she felt this was only a game, she still did her best to play the role of the saintess the elves wanted to see.
However, based on the life she had lived in Bannory over the past few days and what she had learned about the elves, there were not many races hostile to the Elf race. Moreover, the elves had no interest in the barren lands of humans and beastmen. Why would an incident that wiped out an entire city happen?
"Hmph, so what if it was a war? Would we elves be afraid of those inferior races? Whether humans or beastmen, neither of them is as proficient in magic as we are! There is no need for the Saintess to worry at all!"
"It must have been those greedy humans. For profit, there is nothing they would not do."
"The nearest town to us is Forest City, a border city of the Carron Empire. If the Saintess wishes to take revenge, we can lead the elf mages there and destroy their city."
The several elves following Ellie voiced their thoughts with either contempt, prejudice, or cruelty.
"What if they did not do it? Wouldn't that provoke a war between empires? That will not do."
Ellie understood that she was only here to rebuild Falas Port, not to become an evil player who destroyed other people's cities.
Besides, the elves inherently revered nature and harmony. Even if they were arrogant, they would not so easily speak of taking lives. This was probably another test from the elves.
The elves who had spoken secretly exchanged glances. Seeing the relief in each other's eyes, they repeatedly nodded in agreement. "Yes, yes, yes, the Saintess is right. We did not think it through."
Yeah right, like I believe you.
She then began assigning tasks.
Falas Port had been severely damaged, but the casualties were actually few.
The port town had always been accessible from all directions, and its buildings were not tall. Thus, when disaster struck, most people had safely escaped the port. The only serious casualties had occurred at the moment of the explosion.
Many elves who had not managed to flee in time had been buried beneath the rubble.
After Ellie arrived, she quickly arranged for the elves trapped under the ruins to be rescued.
However, there were not many survivors. After all, while they were alive, they could use magic to move away the debris pressing down on them. Only those who were completely dead could not escape.
Captain Ent returned with some of the survivors and arranged for them to join the team clearing the ruins.
Then he went to tell the other person acknowledged by the Holy Tree about what had happened earlier at Falas Port.
Theresa followed closely behind.
When Ent found her, she was livestreaming the ruins of Falas Port everywhere with her real-life boyfriend.
The online livestream titled "A Mysterious Adventure in the Elf Empire: Special Mission Live Broadcast" had been created by her boyfriend.
"Greetings, Saintess Ellie."
Ellie received the captain of the city defense force, and Ent recounted everything he had seen and heard.
Captain Ent was utterly convinced that the true culprit behind Falas's destruction was the Carron Empire's royal family.
He declared loudly, "Lady Ellie, the Carron Empire has shown us such contempt. We should strike back with force and destroy the city nearest to us as well!"
Having just been tested by several elves, Ellie did not want to say anything at all.
Ellie looked at Ent's resolute face and inwardly complained, Are you here to test me too? Did I do something wrong, or does my expression not look saintly enough? Why do you people keep testing me again and again?
Ellie immediately put on a worried expression and sighed. "Before the truth has been thoroughly investigated, Captain Ent must not make rash assertions. Our foremost task now is to rebuild Falas Port, not to send troops against another country. Besides, since you said the people who destroyed Falas were members of the Carron royal family, why should we destroy Forest City? If we are to take revenge, we should seek it from the true culprits, not drag innocent people into it."
Ellie's words considered the relationship between the two empires, took Captain Ent's feelings into account, and at the same time demonstrated her clear distinction between right and wrong, as well as her intention to prioritize calming the people.
Who would not praise her as a kind and wise Saintess?
Yet Captain Ent remained composed, as if he had not heard the answer he wanted.
At the side, Theresa watched the expressions on both their faces.
She noticed that Ellie's expression seemed a little fake, and there was also something off about Captain Ent.
Come to think of it... why is this Ent so insistent that the culprit behind the city's destruction was the Carron royal family? Could it really be that because the other side used royal magic, the culprits must be from the Carron Empire? And before the Saintess, he does not mention at all that those invaders could use royal magic. Theresa narrowed her eyes and suspiciously glanced at the NPC named Ent.
As a captain of the city defense force, his first concern was not rebuilding the port or settling his people, but pursuing the enemy's responsibility. He had even urged the other Candidate Saintess to answer blood with blood and destroy the other side's town as well.
Strange.
Theresa did not understand. If he was truly the instigator described in the mission, then his identity did not fit either. The Elf race was famously arrogant. How could they possibly lower themselves to cooperate with the foul-smelling Fallen Ones?
Remembering that in her previous life, the Carron Empire and the Dawn Elf Empire had ultimately not gone to war, Theresa chose to continue observing.
Captain Ent merely glanced at Theresa, his eyes seeming to say, You did not tell this Saintess that the invaders could use Carron royal magic?
Theresa could not understand him, so she chose to ignore him.
Ent withdrew helplessly. He believed the two Candidate Saintesses knew each other, and that Theresa would tell Ellie about their earlier conversation. Therefore, he did not explain more of the situation, nor did he tell Ellie that Theresa was also a Candidate Saintess.
Of course, this was all his own assumption. Arrogant as he was, how could he possibly believe that his own thinking might be wrong?
Seeing that Ent had nothing more to say, Theresa stepped forward and pulled Ellie farther away.
As a cute girl and also a player, when Theresa took Ellie's hand, Ellie did not resist. She obediently followed Theresa away from Ent and from her boyfriend Pude, who was responsible for the livestream camera view.
She had not originally planned to avoid Ent, but Theresa did not want to gamble.
