"Where did you come from?" the little blond boy asked, tilting his head upward.
He had just been playing with his toy car in his backyard when a mist suddenly appeared around him. By the time he could clearly see his surroundings, a grown man had appeared out of thin air.
And he was an Asian man, someone he had never seen in town before. He was already six years old, but this was the first time he had truly seen an Asian person!
So Asian people have red eyes? Dad actually lied to me!
Noticing the color of Li Wei's eyes, Billy remembered what his father had said when showing him an illustrated book about Asian people—that their eyes were always black.
"Are all Asian people's eyes red?"
Hearing this, Li Wei lifted his foot and kicked the shattered toy car aside. He then crouched down, reached out, and pinched the little boy's cheeks with a playful, mischievous intent. He controlled his strength well; it was uncomfortable and would leave marks, but it didn't really hurt.
"Ugh... let go!"
"Tell me what you saw, and maybe I'll tell you what you want to know~! Hehehehe!"
"Hey!"
Before the little boy could answer, a man's shout erupted from behind Li Wei.
Li Wei turned his head to see a white man standing at the back gate, looking at him with a mix of vigilance and confusion.
"Who are you?"
Li Wei didn't answer. He stood up and ran, afraid that the man would make him pay for the broken toy car.
Besides, standing up and running without saying a word was much easier than staying put and wasting breath on explanations!
Seeing Li Wei choose to flee without a second thought, the man instinctively gave chase. It wasn't until he saw Li Wei disappear into the woods with an unimaginable speed, like a frolicking monkey, that he stopped, feeling somewhat powerless.
David Drayton glanced at the direction Li Wei had fled with a hint of frustration, then turned to his son, Billy. He crouched halfway to check on him. "Billy, are you okay?"
Billy shook his head, then looked at the shattered toy car nearby—the gift his father had given him for his fifth birthday.
Following his gaze, David also saw the broken toy car and rubbed Billy's hair with a helpless sigh.
"Looks like you'll have to wait until your sixth birthday to get another car."
"What just happened?"
Vanessa's voice came from behind David.
The two turned to see Vanessa standing at the back door of the house, looking nervous. Both assured her that they were fine.
"Some weirdo broke into the backyard, crushed the toy car I gave Billy, and ran off. I really should call the sheriff to have that outsider arrested."
Back inside the house, David complained bitterly to Vanessa about the strange man.
Breaking into someone's backyard, crushing a child's toy, and pinching Billy's face until it turned red—you'd have to be completely brain-dead to do something like that.
Vanessa, however, thought a step further. Looking at the red marks on Billy's face, she said, "Oh, that's truly bizarre. But we should still notify the sheriff. If he's some kind of pedophile, the children in town are in danger. Besides, I've never heard of any Asian people in town."
Considering the possibility of what Vanessa said, David agreed that he should tell the town sheriff. He reached out to grab his phone.
"Dad, you lied to me!" Little Billy, who was rubbing his face, drew the attention of both David and Vanessa. He said resentfully, "Asian people's eyes are clearly red! Dad, you lied to me!"
David feigned surprise, crouching down. While dialing the sheriff's number on his keypad phone, he said dramatically, "You don't trust your dad anymore? That breaks my heart!"
Although Billy was young, he could tell David was joking. But he had truly seen the man's eyes, and they were red. He insisted, "But that man's eyes really were red! I saw it very clearly!"
"Yes, yes, Billy has the talent of a painter because he has a pair of sharp eyes." As David said this, he had already connected the call to the sheriff. He held the phone to his ear and made a gesture for silence.
Vanessa, leaning against the table, saw the slightly heartwarming scene and her expression gradually relaxed.
The voice of the town sheriff, Thomson, came from the other end of the line. "Hey, great painter! What do you need from me today? Let's get this straight: don't come to me about your disputes with the neighbors again. I don't have the silver tongue of that nigger."
David rubbed his nose awkwardly and stood up. "It's not about that. The thing is..."
David recounted exactly what had happened, which did indeed pique the interest of the somewhat xenophobic sheriff.
"I understand. Let little Billy describe the situation," Sheriff Thomson said from the other end.
David handed the phone to Billy, asking him to describe the entire process from the moment the weirdo appeared to when he left.
And then... they listened to nothing of substance.
A white mist appeared out of thin air, he crushed the toy car, pinched his face, said two strange things, and then got scared off by Dad?
In summary: he said nothing at all.
After leaving the Drayton family's backyard, Li Wei realized that the scenery here was actually quite nice!
Wide lawns and sparse, towering forests, with several houses surrounding a massive lake. There was a small boat dock at the edge of the lake; drifting on the water during the summer would definitely be a rare treat.
At this moment, he was flying at an altitude of over ten thousand meters. Since he didn't rely purely on his wings to fly, his altitude could easily surpass that of the highest-flying birds on Earth.
The weather here was truly good. Compared to the previous world, this could be considered a paradise on Earth.
Li Wei scanned the surroundings and discovered a military base in the mountains near the landmark lake.
That was quite curious—to build a military base in such a godforsaken place!
And something even more curious happened!
In the corner of his eye, the key icon suddenly lit up, and a 3D arrow cursor pointed toward that U.S. military base.
Li Wei, who had assumed the key was merely a key, narrowed his eyes and curled his lips into a cold sneer, snapping, "Bullshit! You want to control where I go? I refuse! If you've got the guts, jump out and fight me!"
Key: ?
Having said that, Li Wei flew toward another small town that had come into his view.
In a month and a half, he had passed through two consecutive worlds; the first world had turned him into a host, which could barely be considered a gain, but the second world had been nothing but pure terror.
This key was definitely strange, and even if he couldn't refuse this "job," he was going to take a forced vacation!
He wanted to take a good look at this relatively peaceful world; excitement and danger should only serve as seasoning for life, and a sophisticated urban youth knows when to slack off, when to put on a show, and when to work hard.
And now, facing a peaceful world, he was going to play for at least ten or fifteen days before he even started working!
He then descended from the woods beside the town, transformed back into his human form, and prepared to go make some money first.
There had to be those kinds of enthusiastic people in town who often stopped others just to hand over their money, right? The kind that frequently appeared in movies and novels, dressed in punk style, with arrogant hairstyles and hip-hop mannerisms!
