Li Wei walked into the small town, beginning to scout for bars and certain shops, always pretending to be "casually" passing by the vicinity.
But after wandering around for nearly half an hour, he hadn't seen any helpful townspeople, but instead, he was spotted by a local patrol officer.
"Hey, you Asian over there, stand right where you are!" The round-bellied patrol officer saw Li Wei wandering aimlessly, notified the station via his car radio first, then slowly pushed open the car door, placed his hand on his holster, and began to walk toward him, looking extremely vigilant.
Li Wei also saw the patrol officer. Looking around, he discovered that the few pedestrians were all Caucasian, and he was the only Asian, so he couldn't help but point at himself in confusion.
"Yes, that's you! Keep your hands where I can see them, don't make any sudden moves, and turn around!" The chubby white patrol officer pointed his finger at Li Wei, his attitude extremely hostile.
Having wandered for half an hour, Li Wei had already learned from various information channels that this world was still in 2007, the peak of America's self-satisfaction, and that there was an inescapable wind of racial discrimination.
The attitude of white people toward the newly liberated black people was terrible, far from the level of political correctness Li Wei knew in his past life; all kinds of discrimination were blatant.
Although Li Wei wasn't black, he still felt many unfriendly gazes during his aimless wandering.
Now that he had been stopped by a patrol officer, he really wanted to know why.
"May I know why a law-abiding citizen like me is being arrested by you?"
The chubby patrol officer let out a scoff upon hearing this, "Someone reported you for trespassing into the home of a law-abiding citizen and molesting a young boy! If you're smart, keep your hands up and turn around... law-abiding citizen~!"
Oh, ho~!
So that's how it is!
Li Wei spread his hands. The chubby officer's words reminded him of the little boy from earlier. Good grief, to think he actually knew to call the police!
He hadn't even been labeled a criminal during the days when he was fighting like a madman, yet here he was, becoming a target for the American police!
"I said, put your hands up!" The chubby officer suddenly roared, pulling his pistol from his holster and pointing it at Li Wei.
The few scattered bystanders nearby saw Officer Bob actually draw his gun and immediately ran far away, fearing a stray bullet might hit them.
At the same time, they were curious: what kind of criminal had appeared in town that required being held at gunpoint?
What a joke!
Li Wei was someone who had been besieged by the military and had survived the apocalypse; how could he possibly be scared by the little pistol of this high-blood-pressure cop?
His body erupted instantly, and he began to flee with a flexible Z-shaped maneuver. He hadn't even used thirty percent of his speed before he had already slipped out of Officer Bob's line of sight.
Passing through the gap between two small houses, his body shuddered, and dark red flesh tentacles rolled, disguising him as a young white man.
He even arrogantly chose to return the same way, seeing Officer Bob turn on the police car's warning lights and drive past him, roaring by. He could even hear Officer Bob cursing and calling for backup.
"Interesting~!" Li Wei said, suddenly feeling a sense of being watched. He turned his head to look up and to the right.
It was a little girl leaning against the window of a second-story house, her face blank. The lollipop in her hand had already fallen outside, and even her protruding tongue was frozen halfway.
Her shocked eyes were locked onto Li Wei's face, and she looked slightly cute; clearly, she had seen him at the moment of his transformation.
Another child. I hate little boys, but little girls can be forgiven to some extent.
The little girl was about six years old, and she looked much cuter than the brat he had seen earlier.
Li Wei smiled and waved at her, then placed his index finger to his lips...
"Are you a demon?!"
Before he could even make a shushing sound, the little girl covered her mouth with both hands and then screamed in surprise.
Heh!
What exactly was I expecting...
Li Wei withdrew his finger and slapped his face. Obedient children really only exist in fantasies; they simply don't exist in reality!
"No, I'm not, don't talk nonsense, I didn't do it!" He went straight into a triple denial, looked left and right, and released a pulse scan. After confirming that no one was watching this side, Li Wei jumped up and arrived at the second-story window where the little girl was.
"Hiss~!" The little girl gasped, scared by the suddenly approaching Li Wei, and retreated into the room.
Li Wei took the opportunity to enter the cute little room, saw a small chair, pulled it over, and sat down.
He stared intently at the little girl, lowered his voice, and laughed: "Big brother here is a kind person. As long as you lend me a little money, I'll grant you one small request, how about that?"
In order to change the little girl's impression of him, and because he couldn't think of a better place to go for the time being, he prepared to stay and play with the little girl for a while.
"A demon?!" Hearing Li Wei lower his voice, the little girl couldn't help but lower her own, even taking two steps forward. Instead of being terrified, she asked with some excitement: "Demon, can you turn Terry's teddy bear into a real bear?"
Li Wei beckoned to the little girl. The little girl walked over obediently. He ruffled her hair messily, then made a hand-rubbing gesture and laughed: "That'll cost extra!"
Twenty-five minutes later, Li Wei jumped out of the window with the pocket money the little girl had saved up, and waved back at the little girl who was waving at him with a smile.
Wandering around the small town until dusk, Li Wei used the little girl's money to buy a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. Immediately after, he began to look for targets, wanting to find some iconic idlers, planning to pay the little girl back after he earned some money.
Chomping on a cheap cigarette, he walked into the only bar in the small town. Jazz music with a vintage feel played from the player. Inside the bar were many hippies wearing colorful headscarves. These people were talking softly and looked harmonious; it wasn't nearly as rowdy as Li Wei had imagined.
He sat at the bar. The bartender and owner was a bearded, standard American with an indescribable "three-high" physique and thick arm hair, looking like a strong wild boar.
Seeing Li Wei, a new face, enter the bar, the owner came over. He wasn't xenophobic, but instead enthusiastically asked what Li Wei needed.
"Does the water cost money?" After sitting down, Li Wei looked around and saw a hunting rifle hanging on the wall, almost thinking he was in Texas.
The originally enthusiastic bar owner's smile slowly faded upon hearing Li Wei's words. He placed an empty glass on the table, then picked up a pitcher and poured Li Wei a glass of water, praising Li Wei for being frugal as he poured.
"You really are a stingy guy. This glass of water is free, but the next one will cost you a cent."
"One is enough, thanks."
Li Wei took the filled glass, took a sip, and asked as if offhandedly, "I just arrived in town today. I was chatting with a police officer earlier and heard that there's a copper-smelting pervert around here..."
"If you want to talk about that, now you've got my attention!" The bar owner perked up immediately upon hearing Li Wei bring up the very thing he had just learned from Officer Bob.
Bam!
Just as he was about to talk about that perverted Asian man, the saloon doors of the bar swung violently before being blown open by a sudden hurricane, slamming against the wall with a bang that drowned out the jazz music.
The sudden gale even sent the bottles on the liquor shelf clattering, and the hippies who were drinking and chatting stood up in confusion to look outside.
The bar owner also frowned as he walked out from behind the bar, braving the strong wind to reach the entrance. He took one look at the sky, his expression instantly dropping. After observing for a moment, he turned to the patrons inside and said, "Alright everyone, drinking time is over. A hurricane might be coming, so hurry home and reinforce your houses! The bar is closed!"
Li Wei, who was in the middle of drinking water, paused. In his field of vision, the key icon appeared once again, along with that arrow pointing in a certain direction.
