Wait.
An angel?
Could it be that his soul had finally reached its destination?
If that was truly the case, then he could finally cast off all the glory and disgrace of his life and reunite with the brothers who had died on the battlefield.
Leon recovered a little strength and got out of bed.
He dragged his exhausted, heavy body to the window and looked outside.
The sky was clear for miles, birds sang, and flowers bloomed.
"Holy shit, it really is Heaven!"
It seemed his life had finally come to a perfect full stop.
Or perhaps an exclamation mark?
After all, Leon felt that his brief life had been rather astonishing.
Whatever. It didn't matter.
In any case, getting into Heaven after death was a good thing.
"Oh~ You're awake~"
A childish voice came from behind him.
Leon turned around and looked toward the sound.
He found a little girl who was just as adorable as her voice.
The little girl looked no more than three or four years old. She was delightfully cute, with chubby baby cheeks, and her features already hinted that she would grow into a beauty.
Judging by her appearance, she fit Leon's preconceived image of a "little angel" quite well.
Her hair color was just a little strange.
Black was the main color, streaked with silver highlights.
The silver and black combination was not ugly, but it looked a little odd on such a young girl.
No.
Hiring child labor as angels in Heaven was one thing, but why had they nearly dressed this little girl up like some edgy punk?
Leon grumbled inwardly as he slowly walked up to the little girl, crouched down, and asked,
"Hello. What's your name?"
"Mu En," the little girl answered seriously.
"That's a lovely name. It means moon. Who gave you such a lovely name?"
"Mom did."
Leon froze.
No offense, but angels have moms too...
I thought God just molded you all directly out of clay.
"My name is Leon. Leon Kasmod," Leon introduced himself as well, out of politeness.
"Mhm, I know your name. It's a homophone for 'lion.'"
"And who told you that?"
"Mom did."
"..."
Leon suddenly had a bad feeling.
He slowly rose to his feet and looked at Mu En with a hint of terror in his eyes. "May I ask who your mom is...?"
"Losweiser."
Mu En stepped forward, wrapped her arms around Leon's leg, looked up at him, and said excitedly,
"Daddy, you're finally awake!"
Perhaps his glorious yet brief life was neither a full stop nor an exclamation mark.
It was an ellipsis—to be continued.
For a moment, Leon had no idea what expression to wear as he faced the little girl hugging his thigh and calling him Daddy.
He really wanted to say, sweetheart, how could you just call any random person Daddy?
Could you have gotten the wrong person?
After calming himself down a little, Leon crouched again, held Mu En's arms, which were as slender as reeds, and asked,
"Little one, I just woke up and don't know anything. Is it possible you mistook me for someone else?"
Mu En shook her little head, and the ahoge on top of it swayed along with it. "No. Mom comes here every day to see whether you've woken up, Daddy."
Before Leon could ask anything else, Mu En took his hand and eagerly tugged him toward the door.
"Let's go find Mom! She'll definitely be very happy when she sees that you're awake!"
Really, sweetheart?
Are you sure your Mom will be happy to see me?
It'll be a miracle if she doesn't crack my skull open, let alone feel happy.
As he grumbled inwardly, Leon took the chance while Mu En had turned around to notice the dragon tail behind her.
Though it was not as thick and long as Losweiser's, it was tiny and adorable, making him want to reach out and touch it.
"Hey, wait, wait, Mu En." Leon snapped back to his senses and hurriedly pulled the little girl back.
But he could clearly feel that this human child, who looked only three or four years old, was astonishingly strong.
Even if Leon had only just awakened from a coma and was physically weak, he should not have nearly failed to hold back a child her size.
The Dragon Race bloodline really was powerful. Even an accidental pregnancy could seize the genetic high ground.
And when he thought about how his daughter was a little dragon girl born with immense strength... Leon felt an inexplicable sense of tragedy.
The boy who slew dragons had become an evil dragon—the evil dragon's Daddy.
"What's wrong, Daddy?"
Mu En kept calling him Daddy, making Leon feel a little awkward.
"Uh... I want to know, how long was I unconscious?"
Mu En blinked her beautiful eyes, her gentle pupils full of confusion over math and calendars.
"I-I don't know... Anyway, I come with Mom to see you every day."
Mu En raised a hand and pointed to the clock on the wall. "Ten in the morning. Mom comes to see you at ten in the morning, every day."
Leon turned to look.
It was already nine fifty.
"Daddy, Daddy, Mom comes to see you every day. Why aren't you smiling?" Mu En asked when she saw Leon fall silent.
Leon bared his teeth in something like a smile.
Why do you think I'm not smiling?
In ten minutes, his archenemy—the woman he had not developed feelings for but had somehow developed a child with—would come to see him.
How was he supposed to smile?
Leon hurriedly looked around the room, searching for a crack in the ground to crawl into.
But how could this tiny nursery possibly have a crack big enough to fit a sturdy twenty-year-old man?
He looked at the large bed in the room, thought for a moment, and wondered if he should just keep playing dead.
Leon acted as soon as he thought of it, diving straight onto the bed like a carp plunging into water.
Mu En had no idea why her newly awakened old father was lying back down again. She could only run barefoot to the bedside and ask curiously,
"Daddy, aren't you going to see Mom with me?"
"Shh. When your Mom comes later, tell her I haven't woken up yet."
Mu En scratched her little head. "Why? Mom really hopes you'll wake up!"
"Um, because... because Daddy wants to give Mom a surprise. You understand, right?"
"A surprise!"
Little Mu En's eyes lit up, and the white ahoge atop her head and her little tail behind her swayed twice.
"Mhm, a surprise. Mu En, you want Mom to happily receive a surprise too, right?"
"I do~"
"Then when Mom comes in later, just pretend you don't know anything."
"Okay! Mu En will listen to Daddy~"
It had to be said that Leon was quite talented at fooling children.
After settling Mu En down, Leon closed his eyes and returned to his previous state of lying flat like a corpse.
About ten minutes later, the door opened. High heels tapped softly against the floor, drawing closer and closer.
Losweiser was indeed the Queen of the Silver Dragon Clan. Even without opening his eyes, Leon could still feel the majesty surrounding her.
"Mu En."
"Here! Mother."
Her tone was very cheerful.
Losweiser raised an eyebrow. "Why are you so happy?"
After hesitating for half a second, Mu En shook her head. "No, Mu En isn't happy."
Losweiser's dragon eyes shifted slightly as she carefully studied her daughter's young, adorable face, which could not hide what she was thinking.
The little girl was answering Losweiser's question very seriously.
There was nothing wrong with that.
But perhaps she was being a little too... serious.
And Mu En's tail was swaying back and forth behind her.
The Dragon Race only unconsciously wagged their tails when they were extremely excited.
Normally, they would let their tails hang naturally to the ground, like Losweiser did.
Losweiser did not question her daughter further. She merely shifted her gaze slowly to Leon, who lay unconscious on the bed.
By her calculations, this guy had been unconscious for two years already.
It was about time for him to wake up.
Losweiser's tone remained as calm as ever. "Mm, I understand. Go play for now."
"Mother..."
"Is there something else?"
"N-no. Mu En is going to play."
"Good. Be careful."
Mu En gave her old father, who was pretending to sleep, one last look before jogging out of the room.
Losweiser, meanwhile, slowly walked to the bedside and gracefully sat down sideways.
She casually placed her silver tail on the bed and looked at Leon, who was "still unconscious."
