The giant dragon gave a slight nod, then beat its wings and flew straight into the heavens.

A few days after the entrance ceremony, one evening, Losweiser sat at her desk, studying a copy of the Compendium of Blood Magic.

"Blood Seduction... a Charm Magic that can only be used once in a lifetime. After using it, the caster will fall into extreme weakness and exhaustion..."

Something stirred in Losweiser's thoughts, and she murmured, "So Leon was unconscious for two years not merely because he was gravely injured and near death. Blood Seduction also caused his body to be excessively drained."

Just as Losweiser was about to recall that mistaken night, a faint sound came from the room's balcony.

She set down the magic book and rose to investigate.

It was her trusted maid, Shirley.

"You're back, Shirley," Losweiser said.

"Yes, Your Majesty."

"Have you finished investigating Tiger Lawrence and his wife?"

When Leon had asked Losweiser to visit his Master, he had told her his Master's name: Tiger Lawrence.

Shirley knelt on one knee by the balcony door and said respectfully, "My apologies, Your Majesty. I am incompetent—I found no information whatsoever related to Tiger... or rather, I could not find any trace that such a person even exists."

Losweiser frowned. "He's only a farm owner who knows a bit about hunting. He would be considered an ordinary person in the Empire. How could he possibly... not exist?"

It would have been understandable if royal nobles proved impossible to investigate.

But according to Leon, his Master was just an utterly ordinary little old man. That was precisely why Losweiser had dared to send her clansmen to investigate and visit him.

So how had they... found absolutely nothing?

"My apologies, Your Majesty, but I truly found no information about this person."

Losweiser's brows furrowed slightly. After thinking for a moment, she said, "All right. It's fine. Don't blame yourself."

"Thank you, Your Majesty. Then... should we continue the investigation?"

"Please continue, provided you can ensure your own safety. The moment you find anything, notify me immediately."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

As soon as she finished speaking, Shirley's figure flashed and vanished into the night.

The next day, Losweiser returned from an inspection of the Silver Dragon Clan's borderlands, accompanied by the maids.

There were still more than two hours until dinner, and she wanted to use the time to keep Mu En company.

But when she arrived at Mu En's room, she found that her little daughter was not there.

Losweiser went to Leon's room next, but that guy was nowhere to be found either.

Oh, so the father and daughter had both decided to disappear on her?

Losweiser stepped onto the balcony and looked toward the training grounds behind the Sanctuary. There, she found Leon playing some sort of knight game with Mu En.

They treated the wooden sticks in their hands as holy swords, swinging them fiercely through the air.

After watching for a moment, Losweiser noticed that Mu En was simply waving her wooden stick around wildly, without any form or technique.

But Leon seemed to be genuinely drilling, every movement measured and precise.

Seeing this, Losweiser gave a soft snort. "Your body's recovering rather well, Dragon Slayer."

With that, she turned and left the room, walking out of the Sanctuary toward the training grounds.

"Mom!"

The instant the little dragon girl saw her Mom returning after being out all day, she immediately tossed away her wooden stick and ran toward Losweiser, her tail and the little stray lock atop her head bouncing as she went.

Losweiser bent slightly at the knees and waist, rubbing Mu En's little head. "Did you listen to Daddy today while you were at home?"

"I did~ Mu En was very good~ Daddy even taught Mu En how to hold a sword properly~"

"Mu En is amazing. How about we make your favorite pan-fried steak tonight?"

"Yay!"

"Mm, go play."

Mu En picked up her little wooden stick and skipped off to play by herself.

Losweiser watched Mu En's retreating figure for a while, then withdrew her gaze and looked toward Leon.

That guy acted as though he had not seen her at all, continuing to practice his chopping motions on his own.

Losweiser walked toward him.

And just as she came within two meters of Leon, a buzz rang out. The branch split the air, carving an arc through the sky before coming to a steady stop before the tip of her nose.

Losweiser neither dodged nor flinched. She did not even show the slightest reaction of being startled. Her gaze calmly ignored the branch right before her face as she looked composedly at Leon.

"Do you know how grave an act of defiance it is to point a weapon at me in the Silver Dragon Sanctuary?"

"You call a tree branch a weapon?"

"Hey, weren't you once the strongest Dragon Slayer? Never mind a branch—even a leaf would be a deadly hidden weapon in your hands, wouldn't it?"

"Dragon Queen, if you're going to praise someone, then praise them properly. Why are you being so sarcastic about it?"

Leon set the branch down and walked over to sit on a bench nearby.

Losweiser followed and sat down beside Leon.

Leon glanced at her, then scooted his butt farther away.

By evening, the setting sun hung low in the distance, dyeing the horizon a blazing red.

The wavering light stretched their shadows long, long across the ground. They watched the fading sun about to sink beneath the horizon without saying a word, as though wholly focused on savoring the final moments of the day.

"You came to the training grounds to keep Mu En company because you miss Noa, don't you?" Losweiser suddenly said.

Leon rubbed his nose and let out a noncommittal grunt, offering no reply.

He sat there silently, looking at the track inside the training hall. Whenever Noa did endurance training, she used to run lap after lap around it until she was so exhausted she could no longer get up.

Now, though, several little birds whose names Leon did not know had settled on the track, hopping about.

"Noa wrote me a letter yesterday."

Only then did Leon react slightly, turning to look at Losweiser.

"She said she's been doing fairly well these past few days and told us not to worry."

After several seconds of silence, Leon finally could not help asking, "That's it?"

Losweiser nodded. "That's it. You know what Noa's like. I was already surprised that she took the initiative to write back and let us know she was safe."

Leon pondered for a moment, then commented, "Just like you."

"What about her is like me?"

"She doesn't like showing too much of her feelings. She always keeps a straight little face, making it impossible for people to guess what she's really thinking."

Losweiser smiled faintly. "Maybe. But do you remember what I told you before—that Noa is actually a very good child?"

"I remember."

"It's been so long. What do you think now?"

"You were right. Noa's very good, and very smart. As long as you find the right approach, getting along with her is quite pleasant."

"Mm... then let me tell you another secret. Noa once told me that being around you puts a little pressure on her."

Leon raised a brow at that, asking curiously, "Why would she feel pressured?"

"I told her that Dad had been a top student back in school. You could tell from the way he taught you that he'd once been an exceptional student too—he'd received many scholarships, first places, championships, and so on."

Losweiser said, "Noa has a very typical dragon mindset. She admires the strong and yearns for the strong. And in her heart, you are that kind of... strong person."

Leon scratched his cheek. "I thought that, in her eyes, her Dad was just a weakling bookworm."

Losweiser covered her mouth and chuckled. "Not at all. She actually admires you quite a lot."

Pat—

Losweiser slipped off her high heels, curled up her long legs, wrapped her arms around her knees, and lightly rested the soles of her feet on the edge of the bench.

"Do you remember how, in the first few days after you woke up, Noa kept avoiding you and refused to see you?"

Leon nodded.

"Back then, I didn't understand what she was thinking either. But I do know that while you were unconscious, she often secretly ran to the nursery to see you. Whenever I caught her, she would make the excuse that she was going to see Mu En."

Leon smacked his lips and once again hit the nail on the head. "That awkwardness and stubborn refusal to admit anything are pretty like you too."

"Isn't refusing to admit things more like you?"

"Me, refusing to admit things? What kind of joke is that? I've always spoken the truth. When have I ever refused to admit anything?"

"Hmph. Anyway, I've never refused to admit anything."

"Mm. Me neither."

Losweiser lowered her eyes and continued, "But then again, blood ties... can be quite miraculous sometimes."

"Oh? How so?"

"During those two years when you were unconscious, I was raising the two of them by myself. Sometimes I was too busy to handle everything. Leaving them with Anna and the others didn't help either—they just kept crying and crying. No matter how we soothed them, nothing worked."

Losweiser said, "But guess what? No matter how much they cried and fussed, the moment we put them beside you, they would immediately quiet down."

Delight rose in Leon's heart as he asked expectantly, "Really?"

"Really. Back then, they didn't understand anything at all, but it seemed that as long as they were close to you, they felt completely safe."

Losweiser fiddled with her fingers, slowly let out a breath, and asked, "The daughters are all adorable, aren't they?"

For the first time, Leon agreed with Losweiser so wholeheartedly, nodding firmly.

Blood ties were like that. Before they even realized it, they had already been bound tightly together.

Of course, amid his sentimentality, an unfamiliar sense of comfort also rose in Leon's heart.

After all, Leon had not been taken in by Master until he was five.

Before the age of five, he had no concept of "home" at all, much less any understanding of what "family affection" was.

That was the most crucial stage in a child's life.

If they could not feel their parents' deep love, then no matter how prosperous their lives became after growing up, they would always feel as though something were missing.

So... perhaps that was why Leon now loved his daughters with everything he had.

They were the price he had paid in a desperate, life-or-death struggle, but it was a price he willingly bore.

Losweiser smiled. "All right. Then when Noa comes home on break in a few days, let's prepare a grand feast for her."

"No problem."

The last ray of sunlight vanished beyond the distant horizon, and night fell.

Losweiser stretched lazily and contentedly. "All right, let's go back."

"Mm."

"Hey, wait a second."

"What is it?"

Losweiser pointed at the high heels she had just kicked off onto the ground. "Help me put on my shoes."
