Chapter Summaries

Lilith extracted Deadly Poison and Flesh and Blood divinity from the strange creatures’ corpses, then used their remains to craft and test an artifact for refining divinity. After years of refining the divinity and modifying the artifact, she left the artifact unfinished and recognized how dangerous the creatures’ poison had been.

• Lilith extracted five drops of Deadly Poison divinity and one drop of Flesh and Blood divinity, then discovered that the creatures injected their lethal toxin through barbed tentacles.
• Lilith used the demigod’s corpse and the creatures’ tentacles and bones as materials for a divine artifact that refined divinity.
• Lilith found that the artifact weakened the will within divinity but could not erase it completely, and that fully refining a drop caused it to lose half its mass.

As the city prepared to celebrate the thousandth year of the Divine Calendar, Lilith went to visit the exceptionally long-lived former Pope and found him reading a book from World Three.

Lilith reunited with Portgas, an elderly and exceptionally devout churchman who had prolonged his life to prepare for the coming merger of World One and World Three. Portgas intended to settle the churches’ future before becoming one of Lilith’s Divine Guards, and Lilith agreed to wait a few more years.

• Churches from World One and World Three began interacting after their Spatial Rift stabilized, and believers from World Three traveled to World One on pilgrimage.
• Lilith appeared before Portgas as he read a book about her descent, and he knelt to greet her after more than a hundred years apart.

Rentaro Satomi’s Heavenly Ladder shot wounded Scorpio, but it turned away for an unknown reason, leaving the Tokyo Area relieved while hostility toward the Cursed Children grew and the Gastrea New Law was postponed.

• The Civil Security officers failed to stop Hiruko KageTane and Hiruko Kohina, and Hiruko KageTane opened the box, summoning Scorpio.
• Scorpio’s approach threatened to destroy Monoliths and devastate the Tokyo Area, while the object inside the box kept drawing it along its route.
• Rentaro Satomi used his Varanium-metal arm as ammunition for Heavenly Ladder and struck Scorpio, destroying half its body.

Scorpio and the other Stage Five Gastrea headed toward the Land of Origin, prompting nations to send mechanized soldiers and Cursed Children to investigate. The Cursed Children sensed something there but found themselves unable to speak about it as their blood seemed to freeze.

• Scorpio followed a summons toward the Land of Origin after narrowly dodging the Heavenly Ladder weapon.
• Tokyo Area learned the history of Blood of the Gods, whose contamination had created the first Gastrea and sparked their worldwide spread.
• Satellites detected every other Stage Five Gastrea heading toward the Land of Origin, leading nations to dispatch soldiers and Cursed Children.
• Tokyo Area sent Rentaro Satomi and Hiruko KageTane, while other countries sent Cursed Children who had used Blood of the Gods.

At the Land of Origin, Lilith’s order drove the Stage Five Gastrea to fight and devour one another, while the human observers were attacked by missiles. Rentaro Satomi realized the Gastrea were being consumed to produce a stronger creature as he and the others fell toward the ground.
