Towering residential complexes stood all around him. They were not skyscrapers, yet they were even taller than most skyscrapers, like countless dormitory buildings had been stacked atop one another. Though tall, they gave off an awkward, unnatural impression.
Countless pipes ran through every part of those towering buildings. Some crisscrossed between buildings, some crawled all over the walls, some piled up in corners, and others were embedded in all manner of places like sharp weapons. None of it looked normal.
Most abnormal of all, there was no sky in sight. All he could see was something like a ceiling, making Riezel feel as though he had entered a sewer—dark and damp.
Riezel had abruptly intruded into such a place, standing in a relatively open plaza like an uninvited guest about to enter the Ghost Market or hell itself. If this image were used in a horror movie advertisement, it would create an unsettling atmosphere instantly.
"What kind of place is this?"
